I know its off subject, but what the hell is going on with some of those Raider deals? As Campbell's deal, Carl Pavano's deal along with countless baseball deals would rival Campbell's.

Come on Pavano never even produced one positive, Campbell has played pretty well since he was dealt..9 Mill worth no way. I have watched all their games and he is fitting in very well there..As a matter of fact they think he is a Norris Candidate and a must sign in the offseason..

Pretty good read on his situation.

I think it is probable that he signs with the Sharks, if not Kevin Allen's talking about the $9 million plateau.

Just asking...
Claude Balls Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I wouldn't mind seeing a few of these names in Buffalo Sergei Samsonov Ruslan Fedotenko Brad Stuart J-M Liles Jason Smith (veteran leadership) Mike Ribeiro Matt Cooke Todd Fedoruk (to replace Peters)

awill29 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Sundin. 2 years, $12 million. Unload Max to make room under the cap. (I like Max, but I'd be OK getting rid of him in order to get a #1 center). That would give us: Sundin-Pominville-Hecht Roy-Vanek-Bernier Connolly-Kotalik-Paille (Gaustad plays center here when Connolly is hurt) Gaustad-Mair-Kaleta/Stafford Devastating. I don't like this idea one bit (no offense). Sundin for 6 mil is a "reasonable", but there's no way in hell they're signing him for over 1 year, not with Miller/Pommers/Staff/Spacek/Sekera etc. up for FA next offseason. And I really don't like that Stafford gets an optional roster spot. No thanks. I understand the whole "we need a vet" thing, but they should package some of their underperforming-overpayed forwards (Kotalik, Connolly, Max--unless he's dealt like you said for Sundin) for a vet and a prospect/pick.
X. Benedict Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I wouldn't mind seeing a few of these names in Buffalo Sergei Samsonov - No way would I take a chance on him Ruslan Fedotenko - I don't see how he would be an upgrade Brad Stuart - Yikes. Never liked him. J-M Liles - - He would be good Jason Smith (veteran leadership) - I don't see him changing teams Mike Ribeiro - at the right price, why not. He seems to get his numbers. Matt Cooke - He may actually be a better fit in the East Todd Fedoruk (to replace Peters) - Fedoruk puts himself out there, but man, he has been on the losing end of a lot of punishment over the years.

I think we already have Samsonov on our roster (#61.) Liles I like a lot, he would give us a true PP QB. Smith would add some sandpaper and growl to the blueline, and some veteran leadership. But like X says, I don't see him leaving Philly. Fedoruk was knocked out more than a couple times last year - Boogaard and Colton Orr each got him, and Boogaard's beating forced Fedoruk to get titanium plates inserted into his face. I'd pass on Fedoruk.

X How's 5 for 5 sound . While it may sound funny to some, its what Ribiero signed for earlier this year.

I'd rather have him on a 1-year deal too, but I doubt he's signing anywhere for less than 2 years. As for whether the Sabres would do so -- you are probably right. However, This is my wish list, I want a #1 center, and I like Sundin. As for Stafford -- he's had a pretty disappointing year. I don't think he's earned an automatic spot in the lineup. I can certainly see him competing with Paille, Mair and Peters to stay out of the press box, and the competition making him better. As for Kotalik and Connolly -- I don't think they'll trade Al before the season. He'll probably end up with 24 or 25 goals this year -- pretty good for a $2.33 million 3rd-line winger who only gets 12-13 min. of ice time per game. They might unload Connolly, but that would require someone willing to take a $2.9 million gamble on someone who can't stay healthy. Now, either of them (along with Max) could get traded at the deadline if they haven't been re-signed, but that is not relevant to the issue of making room for a big offseason acquisition this summer.

I agree with the Sabres needing a number 1 center..I like Sundin also but the reality of his situation is if he isnt in Toronto he is gonna retire.. There arent the big name free agent centets around this time unfortunatley...The Sabres did it with 3 number 2 centers for 3 yrs and that doesnt seem like a bad idea if they can get those players for 2nd line numbers..I would want them locked up for 5 yrs and on the minus side of 30.. Do it right this time please..

I can certainly see him competing with Paille, Mair and Peters to stay out of the press box, and the competition making him better. I think it is hard to be disappointed with him. Last year he came in on fire and he buried nearly every opportunity he had. He has to do a better job of protecting himself when he goes to the boards, but he does use his frame well. You can almost forget that he is only 22.
awill29 Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I don't feel like looking this up, but does anyone know if Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins is locked up? I'm pretty sure he's a FA this year, and he'd definitely be a good #1 center with a ton of upside.

All I am really saying is that he (like pretty much everyone else) should feel like he has to compete for a spot in the lineup. We have a lot of good forwards, not even counting Max, Ryan, and MacArthur (which my post assumed were out of the mix). I think that kind of competition is usually good for a young player. Having said all that, I would trade Stafford in a heartbeat if it got us our true #1 center or #1 defenseman.

He is a good player, although hasn't he been out all year with a concussion? BTW, all the salary/contract info is at www.nhlnumbers.com.

I'm looking forward to him, Bernier (23) and Pommer (25) for the next few years on right wing. We should be set on the RW for a while. I think it will probably leave Max the odd man out at some point.
