Claude Balls Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 One other thing that I took from the game. I thought bflo's defense was really bad(and it has been) but Toronto really does have some problems on the backend that makes Bflo look allot better...... Toronto actually looked kinda like Buffalo has recently. No backbone tonight. Buffalo was hitting guys regularly and Toronto did not retaliate at all. Even that punk Tucker was lifeless.
millbank Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Passive aggressive...... I am just a farmer honest... :) No offense Mill...you're nice to have around most of the time!
Bmwolf21 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 I always enjoyed Bob Cole. Those of us who were Sabres fans (and living in Buffalo) in the 70's really only had Hockey Night in Canada as our source for TV hockey. The theme song still gets me fired up for a game and reminds me of being a kid. Cheers to a great career for Bob and Harry..and Peter Puck. For the record.. RJ is the best and I prefer Robie's color of Sabres games... and millbank is solid. Good post. I didn't realize this was the last Cole-Neale game or I would have watched the CBC feed - at least for a little while. I still love RJ and Lorentz/Roby, but no disrespect here for a legend of hockey broadcasting.
gregkash Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 The hockey night in Canada theme always gets me fired up for hockey. I thought the difference between the last two games and the past couple of weeks is the blocked shots.
LabattBlue Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Game thoughts... -Shots on goal read 18-12 after 2 periods, but the score aside, I thought the Sabres played well on the 2nd night of back to back games. -First 10 minutes of the 3rd period were brutal, but the 4th line had a nice shift just prior to the 4th goal and from there on out, the Sabres took over. -I've said it over and over again in the GDT, but Pominville continues to amaze. There is no question in my mind that Pominville is the Sabres MVP. There were plenty of folks who thought he would come back to earth after losing Briere(his center), but he has proved them wrong. -I'm not saying they played mistake free, but Weber, Sekera and Funk have not had a lot of WTF moments. I know its only been a few games, but I think Weber can be another McKee. -Hecht was outstanding tonight as was Miller. -I know Kotalik has scored 2 PP goals in the last 2 games, but 5 on 5 Kotalik-Max-Vanek were absolutely terrible for the 2nd night in a row. -Don Cherry on the 1st intermission of HNiC was whining about Kaleta spraying ice on Toskala. Who is he kidding, Kaleta is the kind of player that Cherry loved when he was coaching. Cherry went so far to say that what Kaleta did should be a penalty. I say...sour GRAPES! :D -Good to see Stafford playing better and scoring a nice goal. -One more note on Kaleta...his AHL days are over. He will be a 4th line regular next season...no doubt about it. -Kudos to Lindy for making sure the guys were ready to play the last two nights. -I know that the quality of opponent wasn't great tonight, but the game was on the road, Toronto should have been playing with desparation and the Sabres played the night before. Injuries are no excuse for Toronto, Buffalo has just as many. GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You beat me to it, but I was going to say that I hope Kaleta enjoyed Rochester, because he ain't going back (unless it's to clean out his apartment).

In your dreams BM , In your dreams, Oh and mine now too ...  Yes, definitely in my dreams. Maybe I'll stand a chance when I pick the correct six numbers in either the Mega Millions or Powerball jackpots... Just wanted to switch things up a little. Have a couple good animated ones that are too big (file size) that would really spice things up a little (but still maintain a "family" atmosphere) so this was the best I could do on short notice. I'm gonna keep looking, though... Thats the issue :) You're alright, Millbank... B-)
Claude Balls Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Hey wolfman whats up with the new avatar ? I think it's innapropriate and disgusting. You should be ashamed wolf!!! At least mine has clothes on. ;)

mrjsbu96 Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 The hockey night in Canada theme always gets me fired up for hockey. I thought the difference between the last two games and the past couple of weeks is the blocked shots. i'm with you 100% there! I especially like since they added the "Saturday nights allright for fighting" intro before the classic HNIC theme -ever notice that there is always an obligatory hottie female(s) fan shot in that opening, along with beer, and hockey clips (in orderof importance) God Bless Canada and their love of the game...I wish we had half of that in the States...
johnyvegas Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Millbank is living proof that there are some Leafs fans who are good folk!   It's been my experience that most Leaf fans are good folk... they are always good sports when them come to Buff for games (in my experience) And I always seem to strike up some hockey talk post game in the pub with them. Ever go to a game in Toronto? I have.. in my Sabres gear. Never had any sort of trouble.. only good natured fun from real fans who love the game. Compare that to how i almost got lynched at the Garden for game 3 last year vs the Rags. I didn't even have any gear on.. they called me out cuz i didn't stand and cheer for the first Rag goal. "He's an F-in Sabre fan!" "FU !! FU!!" Right in our faces. Man it was intense. I think if we would have won that game I would be typing this post holding a pencil in my toothless gums. In short, any true, good sport, hockey fans are alright with me... and millbank is among them.

Ohiofan Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Oh man I did go to a game in Toronto in my Sabres gear and I definately did not have the "good natured fun" experience you had Vegas! I honestly thought we were going to be attacked. What a game! We came from behind and kicked their a$$ hard and the crowd was great when they were winning, but they turned on us when they started losing...we had things thrown at us, people were screaming at us. It was so bad we actually thought about taking off our jerseys! The best part was when we were walking out of the Air Canada Centre...there was a dude with a tin cup begging for money, well, he took one look at my jersey and said "Go home you American ! Sabres Suck"! I was laughing at him but was not so sure I should be! Needless to say, he did not get any of my spare change.

Same thing when i went to Bell Centre. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I suppose it depeneds on how much is at stake. I had a good trip early in the season to the Garden once where people just kinda yelled at me from afar. I can destinctly remember a guy yelling at me in my Zhitnik jersey from about 20 rows behind..."Sit down Zhitnik!!" but that was it... All in all I've had much better experiences at 'away' games in Canada than in the states. Though i bet it's not bad in one of those southern cities like Carolina or Tampa (i've never been). I went to a came in Washington and it was like the fans didn't even know what the heck was going on..let alone care who i was rooting for.

That was how the old NHL (Original Six) retirement plan worked and how they handled washed up players!... Probably and old-time player!? Just the name has changed from the Gardens to the ACC! <_< <_<

repster Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Sorry, but I can't stand most Leaf fans (aside from Mill -you are a class act). I know because I live here. They are typically arrogant and think their team is God's gift to hockey when they rarely do anything. I can't stand their players either. Tucker and McCabe are punks who whine to the referees all the time. I used to love it when Ray kicked Domi's butt all over the ice. It gives me great pleasure that the Toronto media has kept a running tally for a number of years for Leaf futility in Buffalo. The fact that their sucker fans keep coming makes it even sweeter every time they lose. Even though I live in the Leafs territory, I live closer to Buffalo so I consider the Sabres my local team. I have many friends who are proudly Sabres fans and hate the Leafs like I do for many of the reasons above. Nice to see the guys get a few days between games to get some rest and practice. I hope they don't take Tampa too lightly Wednesday. I'm sure they remember the last game that almost didn't turn out the way they wanted - and they shut out the Rangers tonight. Looking forward, hopefully tonight's result will kill any desperation Toronto has for Friday and then they get 4 days off before the back-to-back games with the Sens who seem to have bounced back from their awful road trip out west.

tasker48b Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Random thoughts influenced by lack of sleep and alcohol consumption * Briere misses Pominville and Hecht more than they miss him. The Gaustad-Pommy-Hecht line impressed me tonight * When did the Sabres start outhitting people? The Kaleta hit on Carlo C. that set up the Stafford goal was clinical good * I'm still not 100% sure how the Sabres turned a 3 on 2 into a 2 on 0 for Pomminstein's goal but it sure was pretty * Tallinder ... you can only hope to contain him! First goal in 82 games tonight .... per minute of ice time that has to among the league leaders in goal-scoring futility
