Here are the only two cents you will hear from regarding anything political..Call me whatever you want its only an opinion but how can anyone in America vote for a man with the name Obama????? Lets go Sabres

I'd rather vote for a guy with a #%^$#!ed up name (your perception) than a #%^$#!ed up agenda. I don't need a fake, hypocritical, religious agenda pushing puppet leading our country and my family and friends into pointless deaths. All politicians suck, I'll just choose the least of all evil...

Reminds me of every trip I take to the ATM, when it asks "English or Espanol" and I say to myself "English Motherfukr do you speak it?"

My trips to the ATM usually go like this: "Gimme your money bitch!"

Ok, I think many of you are making as baseless an opinion on Carolina fans as you claim they make about us. I have spent some time on opponent's fan site forums, including Carolina's. Yes, I started when we played them in the playoffs. However, I will be the first to admit they are very knowledgable hockey fans. I think many of them were fans of hockey but, due to geographical limitations, didn't have much to hook onto until they got a team. Do they like Sabre fans? Not particularly, but do we like Toronto fans when they invade our building every time we play them? And let's face it: the Sabre fan mentality of declaring ourselves the Cup winners before we even played the ECF series was about as annoying as you can get. Were the Sabres the better team that year? I deffineately think so, but we lost. Sure our D was depleted and our, arguably, best forward that year, Connolly, was out too, but that is just an excuse. They beat us fair and square. There was no puck through the side of the net, no foot in the crease. Was I upset? I cried, so yeah, I was upset. That doesn't change the fact that we lost.

All in all, they will dislike us because we act like the Cup was stolen from us and the shenanigans of a few Sabres bad apples at the Carolina home games and we will dislike them for having the nerve to beat us in the ECF and a "half-empty" building. But their fans (at least on thier forums) are not witless fans that wouldn't know a puck if it smashed them in the face. Give some credit where credit is due. I have found that if a fan takes the time to read and post on a forum they are usually is not an uneducated fan. I'll take a Hurricanes forum poster any day of the week over a Sabre fan whose sole contribution to sabrespace.com is "Sabres Rule! Whooooo!" and back up his logic with, "Because we do! Whooooo!" (Don't we all hate people like that?)

Oh, and I think I will be backed up by the sabrespace.com big guns here when I say In Rod We Trust (who posts here occasionally) is not only a decent guy that contributes to this board (and not a troll) but indicative of the calibre of most 'Canes fans on the web.

Hate isn't quite the word.

The Canes have all the soul of an Appleby's franchise.

Thanks again, X. It's a point well taken: I don't hate the Applebee restaurants, but I certainly won't patronize them by choice either. The fact that they dispatched us in 2006 just doesn't do much for me -- we were far more a victim of our own injuries than of the Canes in the ECF. I dislike Rod the Bod for his classlessness throughout and immediately following the series, but that's ad hominen, not generalized to that franchise (an apt use of the term in this instance).

Brendan Behan called L.A. a "city without a navel" -- it's a metaphor I've applied to a number of other cities (e.g., Houston) -- and, now, to soul-less sports franchises such as the Hurricanes.

I really think I hate Schopp more than the Hurricanes.

I loved this bit.

"English Motherfukr do you speak it?"

may not have been your reference point on that one - but it's certainly mine.

There are some pretty knowledgable posters on thier MB. Quite a number of them actually. But there are a few who will flame you up and down with no provacation whatsoever. They have a natural distrust of Sabres posters there, whether warrented or not...

Oh, no question about it. I am not making excuses for that either but just think in the unlikely event of a Buffalo - Toronto ECF (heh heh, Toronto in the ECF...) and of all the Leaf fans that would come here, especially after a win, to post "Leafs Rule! Sabres suck!" (only with far more misspellings) and we'd be just as jaded about any knowledgable Toronto fan that showed up here too. Given time, I'd like to think we'd give them voice if they made quality contribution to the boards.

Hockey fans are a minority on this big blue marble.

I have a certain amount of respect for anyone who loves the game.

But when we visit, we bring out the self-righteous smarmy prick in all of them.

They hate that about us.

Anyone else up for testing that theory?

j/k

Good post Screamin'. And I'm with X. Benedict's post too. Likely because I live in Va Beach, but when I see a hockey fan, regardless of the colors of his jersey or hat, I'll generally engage him in conversation about his team.

I remember Lindy going bonkers on him - although I think it was a slash that started it. Refresh my memory, what were the details of the eye-poke?

Lindy jumped/tackled Billy Smith after he got slashed by Smith in the playoffs.

It kind of broke the rule that you don't go after the goalie, but Smith was a different

kind of cat...and he would regularly slash ankles if you came near or were circling around his crease.

I don't remember an eye poke. I just remember everyone saying that they couldn't believe nobody had thought to do that before.

All right I'll fess up as well, yes I remember that series and that particular fight, it was great. Man he used to swing that like an axe at the backs of players skates/shins and he made sure no one was in his crease unless they were willing to pay the price.

Amazing what they used to let go in hockey....

in searching for a clip of the smith/ruff incident (no dice), i wound up learning that danny gare was (in)arguably

ever. holy crap - talk about fighting up a few weight classes. (i have to admit that i'm not quite old enough to remember this aspect of this phase of gare's career.)

I am pretty sure Danny Gare trained in a boxing club as a kid.

He would get inside and stand toe to toe with anyone.

He was great.

I seem to remember that Smith had the "Knob" on the end of his stick down the shaft about 6".

Gare was awesome. One tough SOB and he could score too. I don't think we've ever had anyone like that since he left.

Inky, this is my last political posting on this thread.

I don't like any of them. Period.

I think you know me well enough that I'm not going to vote on the Left. Having said that, McCain has betrayed conservatives many times, and yet he still tries to pass himself off as one. When they held the Virginia primary, I voted for Ron Paul. (Boy, did that guy get screwed by the establishment in his own party! )

At this point, I don't care who the Constitution Party puts forth. He (or she) is getting my vote. Might be Jim Gilchrist (the Minutemen guy down in either Arizona or California).

The Canes have all the soul of an Appleby's franchise.

They have a few hometown touches to make it look like its been there a while,

but it is really just the suspension of disbelief. It is still Appleby's.

You get a much better meal at the local greasy spoon. That's what we are

to them and I think they are a little jealous.

X - if this board had annual Oscar awards for excellence in posting you would win. What a perfect way to describe the Hurricanes and their lame-ass fans. Appleby's is simply brilliant.

And you posters should have looked at Ron Paul as your next president. :)
