Corp000085 Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-s...ov=ap&type=lgns so, who sits, what are the forward lines, and the defensive pairings? Who goes to rochester? My guess: peters sits, macarthur returns to rochester, and the 4th line will be paetsch--mair--paille. or... peters or macarthur plays with mair and paille and paetsch plays for teppo or kalinin. Either way, paetsch has made healthy scratching him totally out of the question.
will Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 ...paetsch has made healthy scratching him totally out of the question. agreed. i think peters sits tomorrow, but is back for montreal on saturday. general gets sent down and the amerks go on to take the ahl championship.
ofiba Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 You've got to sit Peters. He's not playing in the playoffs. We need to start playing with the lineup we are going into battle with.
shrader Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 MacArthur will probably stay up. There's no sense in risking one of those limited Rochester call ups they're allowed right now. He won't play, but he'll stick around. For now, my guess is Peters ends up in the press box along with MacArthur.
SabresFan526 Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 My suspicion is that since Peters and MacArthur are probably not going to play in the playoffs, they move Paetsch up front to forward and make those 2 the healthy scratches. They'll keep MacArthur up here because they don't have any more available callups. Additionally, I don't even know if MacArthur has recovered from his illness either, so it could be moot. For right now, Paetsch moves to forward and Petey is the healthy scratch. It's good to see we're getting healthier.

If ice time is any clue, Kalinin played more than Spacek, Patsche and Teppo, so I thing he is in the line up no matter what. He's a damn fine player http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/boxscore?gid=2007032802
Bmwolf21 Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 It would be nice to see some guys who have been banged up or logging a lot of ice time get a night off over the last few games - Teppo, maybe Vanek, Drury - so they go into the playoffs healthy and rested.

If not, play the playoff lines and get warmed up for the dance.
bob_sauve28 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 If not, play the playoff lines and get warmed up for the dance. It's getting close, isn't it? Now that we are this close to playoffs I'm starting to lose interest in Presidents trophy and just want them playing well so they have a head of steam going into playoffs. We are lined up to play Montreal right now. God, that would be great! Love playing them. Love beating them, but anything can happen in playoffs.

bob_sauve28 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 You sure loved it in 83! LOL! Sure did! Was that really 24 years ago? Brad Park :wallbash:
nfreeman Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 was that the last time we beat them in the playoffs? also: i think peters will get scratched in favor of paetsche more than once in the last 5 games, but not tomorrow night. Lindy's going to want the muscle available against a desperate ted nolan coached team. paetsche will be the healthy scratch vs. the islanders.
Poms Away29 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 i would say let macarthur play... let paetsch play d and rest teppo.. he is old and can rest up for the playoffs...
Orange Seats Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 and the amerks go on to take the ahl championship. I sure as hell hope not. The longer they're in the postseason, the fewer options we have down the stretch.

The Sandman and Peca both scored OT winners, Barnaby had the game of his life, and one of the Habs whined about the Sabres being an average team with a great goalie. (Yeah, so what, deal with it. :P )

Fair enough, but I equate "playing well" with "winning," and "winning" in our current situation would equate to a strong running for the President's Trophy. It would be reassuring to have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. All potential game 7's must pass through the HSBC!
Corp000085 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 on a side note... remember back in 05 when darcy regier was crucified for letting zhitnik and satan walk and then "pays us back" by bringing in chumps like numminen and lydman? Don't make me search the archives... Regier was one foot out the door with those moves, probably as much as mcgahee was last month after his precious buffalo comments. I know its silly to use hindsight, but this is a perfect example of a complete 180 switch in direction. Numminen has been an excellent leader, and he has played great shut down defense for most of his time here. Sure, he's slowed down this year, but is that age, or just wisdom in preparation for his final playoff run? Regardless, Teppo was one hell of a pickup. Lydman was literally a chump before last year. he comes to buffalo and basically turns into an all-star. Hindsight is 20/20 always, but boy were we fans wrong on that one!
shrader Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I sure as hell hope not. The longer they're in the postseason, the fewer options we have down the stretch. Best case scenario: very limited injuries and we don't need anyone from Rochester Corp, I guess I was one of few who was happy with the Lydman deal right away. I had been talking with some Calgary fans in the days leading up to that deal, so they painted a good picture of the kind of player he was/could be.

Everyone criticized us for not shelling out to keep Miro (who mailed it in for a solid 2.5 seasons at over $3 million per year) and Zhitnik (a good but far from great defenseman who wanted $4 million), and everyone complained about Lydman -- even though he had been a mainstay for a cup finalist the previous year. Everyone also complained about Teppo (I was guilty of that one for the 1st couple of months of last year, I admit) and, yes, Tallinder. I'll invite people to check the archives on that one -- everyone thought Tallinder stunk, even though he and Toni were leading us in ice time every night. Those posts are what comes to mind when I see the drumbeat of criticism this year for Kalinin, Spacek, Teppo and Kotalik. Meanwhile, each one of those guys is a good-to-very-good player and a real contributor to our team. Not as good as Pronger? True. Going to get benched in favor of Paetsche? Not a chance.

I don't have a problem with Kalinin's play on balance. I would like to see him move some guys out of the front of the net occassionally. And I don't know how you stop this, but he seems to be a magnet for richochet goals.

I remember coming out of the lockout when basically every NHL player was a free agent. Players were signing ridiculous contracts left and right, but only Numminen with Buffalo. On this very board someone named DeLuca was the leader of the "Regier is a bum, this team isn't even trying to win" bandwagon. I wonder what ever happened to that guy? :D
inkman Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Who thought this much excitement would ever be shown for Toni? How times have changed...
