fallen627 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I think it is a combination of city and team. If it were just city, you would think that the Panthers would rank higher than they do. The team's poor performance and lack of fan support is the reason for why the Panthers are ranked so poorly. I also feel like McGahee's comments may have made our figures spike a bit more than they would have otherwise. However, we still probably wouldn't have ranked that high. I would also question who exactly got polled in this survey? Or, better yet, who responded to it?
shrader Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 One question is which team would you most like to play for. The next is which city would you least like to be traded. If the second had anything to do with the team, it would say team, just like the first question did. Seeing the actual questionaire would clear this up.
apuszczalowski Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Why dont you ask the 300,000 citizens who left Buffalo because of horrible leadership why no one wants get traded to Buffalo. It has nothing to do with the team, ownership coaching etc..... Every guy in the league would love to play for Ruff and Galisano. I don't know if thats true, Ruff makes you work for your money, there are some teams where they would allow you to play off your reputation, rather then making you work for your money Also, Buffalo is not known for paying big contracts, something almost all players are looking for. The Sabres right now are in a delema when it comes to wanting to pay for Briere and Drury. Both are going to get 5 mil + contracts, and thats territory the Sabres aren't used to. They would rather bring in guys who are under the radar and will make less but have the chance of being the next Briere/Drury.
deluca67 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Jeez -- what do we have to do? We're the best team in the league, we play an exciting style, we have great goaltending and defense to cover up mistakes, we have a great arena, every home game is sold out and raucous, ESPN just named us the best franchise in sports, and yet: http://www.thehockeynews.com/en/news/news.asp?idNews=24100 To what city would you least like to be traded? 1) Buffalo Sabres (40) 16% thoughts? Considering that 50% of the players in the league know they couldn't make the Sabres roster it's not a bad percentage.

I would've thought that last year's success, this year's success, spending to the cap, the fans, the shot at the cup, etc., would have made us more attractive to the players. Instead we are the least desirable by a wide margin. It can't be the weather, can it? All these guys are from cold climates. It's tempting to shrug this off and say it doesn't matter, but this kind of thinking affects our ability to attract AND RETAIN free agents, get waivers of no-trade clauses, etc. Maybe a cup and more spending in the offseason will help. thoughts? Information like this can be skewed anyway they want it. It just depends upon who they surveyed. That's part of the problem with research. If you have to hypothesize. One has to come up woith two different statements and then set out to prove or find out which one is true. For example a statement saying that as a hockey player you would least like to play in Buffalo and then you would come up with an alterante or null hypothesis statement that would be as an example that most hockey players would really like to play in Buffalo. With these two hypothetical statements the researcher would then have to try to find out which one is true. If this is not some form of independent research more than likely a surveyor will reject the alternate hypothesis that most hockey players would like to play in Buffalo just to make his survey say what he or she wants it to say by accepting the first hypothesis and rejecting the second.
connee Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 We need to be more concerned about improving our community and less concerned about what other people think of us.
BRH Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 As for the weather, its rougher then some other "Hockey" regions. Buffalo gets a nice mixture of freezing rain and snow and bad weather from the lakes. In the winter it can get pretty rough and messy in Buffalo And flying into Buffalo in the winter, which all these players do, is an absolute b1tch and a half sometimes with the wind. There are times when I fly during the winter and even *I* wish I didn't live here.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 We need to be more concerned about improving our community and less concerned about what other people think of us. But but but...connee, we finally have an agreement on the waterfront! Bass Pro and a casino will cure all ills - won't they? This will be interesting to watch, to see if Buffalo can get the hell out of its own way this time, or if they will (again) find a way to screw this up...
