Watching Sabres in DC?

There was a place on King Street in Old Town Alexandria called the Penalty Box that showed the games. I'm not sure it's still around. It was/is owned by Bugsy Watson, the old NHL penalty king. You could actually sit in a penalty box.

That place is called Bugsy's now, and still owned by him. Good pizza, considering it's northern Virginia.

Greeve's in (I think) Vienna is also a good bar to see sabres games (it's also a great bar for Bills games). It's just off Route 29 exit of 495, a couple of exits from Tysons Corner. It's usually packed with Buffalo fans.

I hear Jimmy's is good too-- it's just a little too far for me (I'm in Lorton).

By the way, if anyone is in a jam to try to watch a game in Baltimore, Fletchers is great. My brother and a bunch of his friends were down for the Bills/Ravens game and we were really in dire circumstances to watch the Sabres game (ESPN Zone was our original plan but they were not showing the game and it was outrageously expensive anyway-- college bowl games were playing). So we crawled the internet for some Sabres bars, stumbled on a vague reference to some guy who owned a Baltimore bar from Buffalo and just got the NHL pack on direct tv, and discovered Fletchers. The wings are great and they have a big screen tv in the back. The owner was there that night and kept feeding us free shots when the sabres scored. My memory is a little hazy toward the end there, but I think the Sabres scored 4 or 5 goals.

McFaddens - home of the DC Bills Backers (they have an old standing buffalo helmet and they have respectable wings).

2401 Pennsylvania Avenue

at 24 Street NW

Washington, DC 20037

Phone: 202.223.2338

They have Center Ice, but you might want to call ahead to make sure.

I used to live half a block away. Not sure that I agree that the wings are respectable, but McFadden's is a Roch-based-chain that ought to play the Sabres games for you; they always did for me. If not, try Stetson's at 16th & U; they always had Center Ice and always would accomodate Sabres fans when they could.

Use to be some WNY bartenders there, but this was many years ago...still the best hockey bar in N. Va. though, and one of the only bars in the area with Blue on tap.

I'll give a shout for Fletcher's Bar in Baltimore. A great place for Sabres fans. They usually have the audio on and free shots after every Sabres goal. Saturday night they didn't even have basketball on-just Sabres and NCAA hockey. They even have the Sabres on their website: http://www.fletchersbar.com/

Blue on tap! :D

Too bad I don't live there anymore. I used to be a staple @ Grevey's in the early 90's for Bills games. www.greveys.com

One of the waitresses at Bugsy's sports a sabres jersey during games and I hear one of the bartenders is from the Buffalo area. I took my wife and two 12-year old boys for the Sabres-Devils game we lost a couple weeks back and had a fine time except for the loss.

I've also like Jimmy's Old Towner in Herndon, but a little too far for me to drive home to Alexandria after a game given I learned to drink in Buffalo.
