he gets the yank after 4 goals on 12 shots, including 3 goals in the 2nd period. For once in my life "GO CANES GO!!"

Looks like the Devils can't handle the heat being put on by the Pens.

It will be interesting in Toronto on Tuesday.

Also,

I can't believe NJ is building a new arena. Are they reducing the number of seats to 14,000 so the Devils can sell out some games?

I can go on and on about this, but Martin Brodeur is actually overrated. I have no bias other than the fact that the Devils have ruined hockey and that I am a Sabres fan. However, Martin Brodeur is a product of the Trap System and is only in the top third of all goalies in the league. You cannot convince me otherwise. If Hasek or Luongo played in New Jersey over the past 10 years the results would be the same if not better. The reason he should not win MVP is because everyone that has any hockey intellgence knows this.

Congrats on 3 Cups. I take nothing away from you. However, I could name 100 goalies that could have done the same.

Overrated? Are you effing crazy? He will go down as one of the best goaltenders ever to wear an NHL uniform. Trap system or no trap system, he's an amazing goaltender. In the top third???? HES SECOND IN THE NHL IN GAA!! HE HAS 700 MORE SAVES THAN HASEK WHO IS IN FIRST! HE HAS 12 SHUTOUTS!! He's .03 GAA behind Hasek who has played 19 less games than him.

Look, if youre trying to psyche yourself out that Brodeur isn't that good..then by all means, do that for yourself. Make yourself feel better ES... but, youre nuts to think that Brodeur is overrated. The guy is going to be a first ballot hall of famer. And, yes, Hasek and Luongo could do the same because theyre GREAT GOALTENDERS!!!!

I for one, would be appalled if MB didn't win the Hart. Furthermore, I hope NJ gets bumped off in the playoffs....cuz the Sabres are done in a 7 gamer against NJ.

Brodeur is the best goalie in the game... hands down.

There should be an asterisk in the record books ' * Trap era goaltender '.

Please... youre crazy. He's been the best goaltender in the NHL for pretty much his entire career. I'd take him over Miller anyday.

Good thing the Sabres never played the trap with Hasek!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, but yes overrated, and yes effing crazy.

Here are some interesting numbers to ponder.

When out shooting their opponents?

Devils .710 winning percentage.

Buffalo .679 winning percentage.

When being out shot?

Devils .541 winning percentage. A .169 drop.

Sabres .649 winning percentage. A .030 drop.

When shots are even?

Devils .250 winning percentage. A .460 drop.

Sabres .500 winning percentage. A .179 drop.

The numbers seem to indicate that when the Devils open it up Brodeur isn't as effective. While Miller seems to be a bit more consistent.

Well, someone has to inhabit "Dagobah" besides Yoda (aka Lou Lamoriello).

Only in the years that hasek wasn't starting. Hasek will go down as the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. Brodeur is good, and will be a hall of famer, but you have to agree that he is that much better because of the system he plays in. The trap could make most goalies look much better then they really are. Take away the trap and Brodeur would become a decent to good goalie

Thous numbers tell me that we are a better at scoring then NJ not that Brodeur is shakey.

I'm sorry but when the NHL has to change rules because of how good you doing something then you go down as one of the greatest at your position (Brodeur playing the puck up to his defenseman from the corner's)

The NHL changed rules because the NJ style of play was killing the NHL. In NFL terms they were committing pass interference on every play and getting away with it.

And throughout history there have many goalies who played the puck well. The difference between Brodeur and those goalies is that Brodeur played in an era when goalies became untouchable out of the crease. Not only could he play the puck but you weren't even allowed to check him when he did. It's like telling Michael Vick it's ok to run with the ball because it's a penalty to tackle quaterbacks outside the pocket.

You mean those nights where the Sabres were out shot 45-20? Which was mostly every night.

Nice try! Under Lindy Ruff's defensive-minded system, I bet Hasek didn't face 30 shots on average a night. Wanna bet it was about 28? In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you I Iooked it up. Still wanna bet?

As much as I defend Hasek and really don't care how he left Buffalo, he will NOT go down as the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. Yes, he's great, but in crunch time i'm taking Patrick Roy or Martin Brodeur over the groinless headcase.

I don't have to defend Brodeur and the system that NJ employs but I guess I will anyway. His stats, accomplishments, and accolades speak for themself. The guy is in his 13th or 14 season and is playing like a 24 year old. For what it's worth, He has 1956 saves in 69 games (28.3 a game) and the Devils are 9th in the league giving up nearly 29 shots a game. Detroit gives up only 24 a game and lead the league in that stat. (Dom? you there?)

Look, we all hate Jersey cuz theyre a tough team to beat. I know I don't want to see them in the playoffs.

I'm not saying Brodeur isn't good, and by justing going off of shots on goal isn't the best way to judge a goalie because it doesn't take into account the quality of shots they face.

In his prime (i.e in his Buffalo Days, not right now) Hasek cannot be beaten. He will go down as the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. Patrick Roy and Brodeur have almost always played infront of decent teams. Hasek was the guy that made a bad to mediocre team great. Hasek in his prime = Best goaltender ever

I disagree Hasek in his prime was a headcase, premadonna, poison to team chemistry, and prone to lose the big game. He was possibly the greatest goalie playing for 4 or 5 seasons. But no were near the greatest ever. Time seems to make people forget his bad points. Like quitting on teams, disappearing with injuries, and letting in the easy goals.

Hasek was winning Vezina's and Hart trophy's before Ruff ever arrived to coach the Sabres.

Shots per game?

94-95 29.78

95-96 34.08

96-97 32.49

97-98 29.85

98-99 29.33

That's 31.14 shots per game over a five year stretch. I would like to see Broduer face 34 shots a game over a season. I doubt he would win the Hart. He may bang a couple more in-laws but I doubt he would lead the league in anything else.

What is the Devils record without Brodeur?

Say you replace him with Kolzig, what do you think their record would be?

I think Brodeur is worth an extra 7 or 8 wins. That's 14-16 pts, that's huge.

please, Hasek is in his 40's right now and still one of the best goalies in the league
