rickshaw Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I am not sure what to think of this matchup. Will the Canes of last year suddenly rise again, or will our 4 and 0 record of this year be the norm and have us move on to the 2nd round? Thoughts?
Corp000085 Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 no way we lose to the canes. they barely beat the amerks last year... unless there's more injuries between now and then, no way do the sabres lose.
Chief Enabler Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I hope so, I'd say that would be an emotional lay-up, and they have to know that. Although, they are giving it to NJ pretty good right now (3-0 in 2nd). Who will be our muscle in the playoffs? Mair? Stafford? Zoobie?

SCSabresFan! Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I cannot wait for that match up. Buffalo will clean the floor with the paper champions from Raleigh.
ncsabre Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I don't fear the Canes at all. They are too inconsistent. Been that way all season. I can?t see them putting any winning streaks together for the playoffs to win a first round series.. But playoffs are different and we all know anything can happen. But for this discussion I wouldn?t mind playing them because I will get to attend at least 2 games here in Raleigh. Then we get to hear about how Sabre fans suck and are horrible human beings. Montreal would have been the one team I would have feared. But with Huet out and them sinking faster than the Titanic they won?t even make the playoffs. I don?t know about everyone else but the playoffs can?t get here soon enough. Go Sabres
connee Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 In former years, when the Sabres were merely a playoff team, I would hope the good teams would get upset early (like 1999). Now that they are a Stanley Cup favorite, I want them to play the best teams. Pittsburgh>New Jersey>Detroit>Stanley Cup.
wjag Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Carolina could very well end up the 3rd seed. They are closing in on the division leaders. With 2 today and a Buffalo win tomorrow they are 2 out of second in their division and four out of first. I'd like them to settle into the 7th seed and have them an NJ go at it in round one. Teams I'd like to see versus Buffalo in round one: NYI, NYR, Thrashers, Lightning or Leafs
Chief Enabler Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Standings seem to be firming up abit. Sabres Devils Thrashers Pitt Ottawa TB any combo of Carolina/Montreal NYR, Loafs, or NYI who cares  second round Sabres/Pitt or Ott second round NJ/ATL might be good conference finals Sabres/NJ
Stoner Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I am torn between worrying that the champs might catch lightning in a bottle and thinking that a win over Carolina would really propel the Sabres all the way.

I would like to see Carolina in the 2nd round after they dispose of NJ for us.
bottlecap Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 I'd look forward to destroying the Canes. :death:
Raelity Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Sure I'd love to see the Sabres whip the Canes. I also would like to see Buffalo vs Thrashers -for selfish reasons, since I live in Atlanta area now, I might be able to see a couple playoff games live for a change!

Scotty Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 As King Leonidas said to the in 300........ "COME GET SOME !!!!!!!" :death:
hopeleslyobvious Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 As King Leonidas said to the in 300........ "COME GET SOME !!!!!!!" :death: Actually it was "Come and get them" (when the Spartans were asked to lay down their arms).
Screamin'Weasel Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Actually it was "Come and get them" (when the Spartans were asked to lay down their arms). I believe it was Ash in Army of Darkness (aka Evil Dead III) that utter the immortal, "Come get some..."
inkman Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Who said "bring it on!" Never mind... It's already been broughten. I'd look forward to destroying the Canes. :death: I don't think Lindy would have trouble getting the boys fired up.
eball Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I've said it many times -- I WANT THE CANES. #1 -- it means I can go to the games. #2 -- I want to see their fan [sic] go home sad.
JohnRobertEichel Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Technically every playoff matchup scares me, but Pittsburgh is the only Eastern Conf team that currently SCARES me. I'm confident we can beat Carolina in 6 games, as long as we're relatively healthy. Carolina is actually one of the 4 postseason teams I'm rooting for us to play, in terms of maximum entertainment value: 1st round: Carolina (revenge for last year) 2nd round: Ottawa (revenge for this season) EC championship: New Jersey (the ultimate "new" NHL against "old" NHL revenge matchup) SC finals: Dallas (obvious ;) )

I loved his helmet, it always made me laugh! He's the type of free safety that any team would love to have. Second, I assume you want Dallas so that the Sabres can avenge the loss in 1999, is that right? Or is there something I'm missing, i.e., you live in Dallas and want to see the games, etc. Just curious, because I'd love to see Dallas as well, but that's because I live in Houston and might have a shot at sneaking up for a game or two...
JohnRobertEichel Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Second, I assume you want Dallas so that the Sabres can avenge the loss in 1999, is that right? Yep that's right. Of course, if the Sabres lost to them again my family members will probably put me on suicide watch. Also, no I don't live near Dallas. I'm an upstate NYer, but because of the team's HUUUUGE (said in my best Billy Fucillo voice) popularity up here right now, maybe my best chance of getting my hands on available playoff tickets would be if the Sabres play one of those East Coast teams with a crappy fanbase. On that thought, maybe I wouldn't mind seeing us play the Thrashers or Predators either...long drive, maybe, but worth it.
