Can anybody explain the tripping call on Pommenville to me?

Why is that a trip when a player cuts back into you when you

have position? Maybe I saw it wrong - but I that Jason P had

good position.

I thought the same thing at first, but on the replay it looks like Pominville got beat and then stuck his foot out.

They will usually waive it off if you are close.

I've never heard of a rule that they will "waive off it it's close." I'm pretty sure it was waived because Fleury gave the impression to the officials that he would play the puck. As soon as a goalie does this, icing is waived.

Pommers definitely put his skate out. He was caught facing the wrong direction and wasn't even playing the puck.

I meant if you're close to the red line. If you watch, defensemen oftentimes will dump the puck a foot or two before they hit the red line.

I think he had a pretty good case, but I didn't see the "tantrum" -

Roberts comes in elbow high behind the play on Briere and then Orpik near the

end on Roy.

I'll have to have another look. Roy yaps at everybody though.

I agree... He had every right to throw the hissy!... Heck, you should have heard my hissy that I threw... :D :D

That was the play down along the Pens blue-line... Opposite the bench... Camera side that Vs. was using? Right?

Such a "flaming elbow"... Amazing it wasn't called...

Now a question... What happens if a penalty is called in OT with less than 2 miutes left... Is there some carry over to the SO... Which I don't think... With the penalty just expiring at the end of OT... Doesn't allow players to tee-off on one and another?

I noticed a "penalty" column in the shoot-out box... How does that work?

I count 7 points and Ottawa has played an extra game.

EDIT: If Ottawa wins all of their games for the rest of the year, the Sabres would need to win 7 to tie. That's 1 game above .500.

To my understanding, Ottawa would win the divsion due to their win/loss record w/ the Sabres. Does it work differently?

that was possibly the weakest shot ever in a shoot out. He looked like he was trying to pass it to the goalie.

When my friends and I see a shot like that, we joke that he 'hit the pass button' instead of 'shoot,' like in a video game.

Ya... Same here... What the eff was Vanek doing?... At least go down in a blaze of glory after a shot like that! Plow into the goalie!

Lindy must see something we don't. I can't recall a single time that he has looked good on a shoot out shot or a penalty shot.

Maybe it's just me, but when Danny misses, I feel like we are done regardless of who is shooting behind him. It's a pattern that seems to hold.

He did look good (yet, crazy) on that blast slapper past Huet!

He doesn't have a right to throw a hissy - that is my point. It was stupid and he looks stupid for doing it. You don't think a hockey official forgets that type of stuff? As I said, there was no time left in OT so it does not matter if they make a call or not. He just looks stupid. Save the whining for the middle of the game if you must.

As for the hit on Briere by Roberts, I wish I had the same tech equipment as you guys b/c there was no replay on VS. and even slowing the replay down on my DVR I could not tell where Roberts exactly hit him....but, I didn't see any whining by Briere so I am guessing he took a hard hit, by a hard-nosed hockey player and he moved on from it...

That is exactly what it looked like. That's a pretty funny description. And I agree about Briere missing and setting the tone for the rest of the Shootout. It didn't help that I was watching the game with a Pens fan. :censored:

I think Fluery showed him the 5 hole and Vanek went for it.

Overall wins is the first tiebreaker. It's true that if Ottawa won the rest of their games and the season ended in a tie, they would have more wins. However the point I was trying to make, is that if Ottawa loses one the Sabres only need to win 6 for the tie, if Ottawa loses 2 the Sabres only need to win 5, etc.

I think the biggest gripe with Roberts was that it seemed every hit he made, he had his arms up in the guys face... not quite elbowing, but enough to annoy people...

If that occurs and the puck left the skaters stick before it hit the red line, then it is icing. If its not called, then the call was blown.

In defense of Vanek, I believe that's exactly what he was trying to do. Fleury was moving post to post and this exposed the 5-hole. Unfortunately, M-A got his pad down on the ice and Vanek's shot was still pretty weak.

i don't think they "saw something," i just think christensen and crosby both have some pretty sick moves and incredible puck handling skills. those dekes will beat any nhl goaltender any night of the season.

well, as long as they don't get a poke-check when they're in close. ryan was patient, and that's great, but if he'd just...flip his stick...out a little...ugh, i felt so bad for him.

lots missed calls last night in that game, i haven't read the whole thread but did any on mention when Melacar (sp) cross checked hecht to the face? no call. The sabres seriously got out muscled and didn't come back with enough grit of their own, somebody needs to slap some sense in to them.

With last night's goal Christensen improved to 8 of 13 or something ridiculous like that, and Crosby is Crosby, so that was a tall order for any goalie.

Not to keeping opening old wounds, but I was less troubled with Ryan's shootout performance than I was with Vanek's weak attempt... :wallbash:

GO SABRES!!

This is my first post - transplanted Sabre fan lost somewhere in NC - love the weather, hate the Hurricanes!!

After the game where Ryan scored 2 goals, I was hoping that the "newbies" would inject some new life into the time.

After the last few games, does anyone else agree that the team should use some of their morning skate time to practice basic skills like skating and passing at the same time? The number of turnovers due to sloppy stick work is really frustrating and it's not just the new guys making the mistakes.

The Center Ice feed was out in our area for quite awhile last night, so I was glad that for one night, the game was on VS, even if the announcers do suck.

mm, welcome! Maybe you are right. Back to basics.

I've been screaming that at the tv for the past month or so lol I think the only reason buffalo did okay last night is because they got lucky on a lot of passes. I think the pens pass defense is a little more lax than most teams we've been facing for a while. I remember a few plays last night where some cross ice passes were made in our zone within inches of a pitt player almost picking it and walking in on miller untouched. It's been happening too much and we just got lucky Pittsburgh didn't jump on it last night like other teams have been.

If the sweep of the stick carries through the red line while shooting the puck, it shall not be considered icing.

Yeah that non call had me up in arms. I even replayed it for my wife and she is not a hockey fan by any means, and she agreed that it wasn't right. The old standards are creeping back in, I tell ya!
