GrimFandango Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I just tuned in as i got distracted by a phone call right after the game ended. As i turned it on, Riter was going off about not being an idiot when you call in. Now i have to ask, what did the first caller say to put him on that tirade? I bet it was hilarious.
coloradosabresfan Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 he was trying to make a point about miller giving up soft goals but he used the shot that went in off the back of his helmet as his example
Knightrider Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 he was trying to make a point about miller giving up soft goals but he used the shot that went in off the back of his helmet as his example That was last night. Tonight it was how Bufffalo can't deal with the trap.
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 That was last night. Tonight it was how Bufffalo can't deal with the trap. Heck, who can a greater % of time? Heck... 50/50 crap shoot at best at times for any SUPERIOR team you could muster together. The trap does level the playing field and can keep a far less talented team alive against a superior talented team... Why don't we forget playing the game and just roll the dice... :(
jackb Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Why torture yourself listening to this load. Awful postgame host, he must have photos of someone high up. GR is a horrible station Fat Boy is one of the biggest offenders. Does not know the game very well and sounds super lazy.
theesir Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Why torture yourself listening to this load. Awful postgame host, he must have photos of someone high up. GR is a horrible station Fat Boy is one of the biggest offenders. Does not know the game very well and sounds super lazy. How does one SOUND lazy? Is it because he's fat that he SOUNDS lazy. Is he out of breath in the middle of a sentence... or should he be out of breath from jogging during the commercial breaks and since he isn't he SOUNDS LAZY. <_< Oh and does not "knowing the game" mean he doesn't realize you have to yell SHOOT!!! during power plays to help tell the team what to do? Or does it mean he doesn't realize Lindy sucks as a coach because the Sabes have lost 3 in a row. Oh, I know its because he doesn't want to fire Regier who couldn't pull off a good trade to save his life.
jackb Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 He sounds lazy because he is lazy. My friend likes to torture me by listening to him at work and Brad has no clue. I've never heard some utter the phrase "I dont know" or "I have no idea" so much. Sometimes I wonder if he's watching the same game as the rest of us and his analysis is so stupidly sophomoric I feel dumber after listening. His insistance of trying to blend in non-sports topics is as painful as Buffalo radio can get. Briere's been traded, Bonds indicted, and the Bills have moved to LA but lets talk about Justin Timberlake. That's that idiot's mentality on the air. He, like GR, sucks. Beginning and end of story.
Stoner Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Not sure about the particular incident, but I've heard it too many times to doubt it. That station has a long history of insulting its listeners. Some do deserve it, but a lot don't, and it's painful to listen to. I think the shoddy way sports fans have been treated over the years by the mainstream media has played a big part in the explosion of fan-created talk online in various forms. It's still a long ways off, but one day the mainstream media and their arrogant hosts will be buried, and not many will mourn the day. Seriously, who needs a talking head on the radio when we have this? Oh and does not "knowing the game" mean he doesn't realize you have to yell SHOOT!!! during power plays to help tell the team what to do? Is it not fair to criticize the power play this season, Lindy's odd decision to start Ryan against Minnesota and Darcy's Zubrus trade? Or do we follow Jim Lorentz's lead and not criticize anyone who has earned a pass for their past good performance (Numminen comment)?

On Friday he had a caller that said he'd left the game early because he was embarrassed by the fans boing the Sabres and cheering Conklin saves. Brad jumped all over that and spent most of the remaining time that I could pick up GR (the signal in the evening doesn't seem to carry much past the airport). He was complaining about people complaining when the team had 27 shots for vs 17 against. He was saying that people that were booing knew nothing about hockey (that's my paraphrasing of his statements). My response to that was, I don't care how many shots the Sabres had, they didn't have nearly as many quality scoring chances that Minny had. They also were making painfully foolish passes and were very lucky to be down by only 2 after 2. His lack of comparing scoring chances when evaluating the Sabres' play seemed to put in question his own knowledge of the sport. I had no problem with the few fans that booed at the end of the 2nd. I didn't join them, but absolutely thought the Sabres had earned the chorus. I normally like Riter, but thought he was way off base on Friday night.

Quick hijack here - dave, that's one of the funny things about the AM signal, I guess - I have been driving from Niagara Falls back to Cleveland at night and picked up a pretty strong signal from WGR as far as inside Ohio, past the Pennsylvania/Ohio border... /hijack As for the Riter comments - I can honestly say I haven't heard him postgame more than a couple times, but I couldn't tell you what I remember of him or his work. I think he made some borderline stupid comments after the Drury incident, comparing it to the Umberger/Campbell hit, but I don't know of that was definitely him...
