inkman Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Before anyone flames about Ryan's goal, yes it was nice but more of a stupid play by the defenseman than Ryan's skill level that made that play happen. I don't think either of these guys are ready for the big time. During the past few weeks while these guys have been aboard, numerous scoring chances have been squandered. You can see the frustration with Drury and other players skating regularly with these guys. Clarke has definitely shown potential and may just need a little more seasoning but Ryan's contract is up at the end of the year and I don't see him in the future plan of the Sabres. If they lose a few bodies in the offseason, I could see him being a depth player that would shuttle between Buffalo and Rochester but his future with the team looks bleak.

Stafford failed to cover Moore on his second goal last night. He still needs to concentrate on his defense more. I'm still not sure he should play in playoffs

I'm still not sure he should play in playoffs I was pretty sold on him for most of his time with Buffalo but plays like that are making me wonder.

LabattBlue Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 It was fun for awhile, but I want our vets back now Amen. Except for Paille and maybe Stafford none of these guys are ready for the NHL come playoff time.
Goodfella25 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Come on people, this is only 2 bad games in a row. I seem to remember a long stretch before the rash of injuries when it was our regulars playing like garbage. I thought the Ryan goal was fantastic, and it showed that he didn't give up despite being down 4-0. And it was his skill level that allowed him to make the move to beat Harding, whose confidence was flying high at the time, so I have to disagree with you.

Right on!!! if anything is showed that Ryan doesnt give up and and if it wasnt for that unfortunate bounce to set up that ultra shorthanded break away it would have been a semi- decent end to the game... BY THE WAY>>> You have a two- man advantage and your playing a team that has played the night before and its late in the third period and you genereate what?? NExt to Nothing?? that is the most disturbing part to the end of the game.... Grrr Mike Ramsey, you and your well - conditioned team and un-known goalie can't leave town soon enough... Buh Bye!
Bmwolf21 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Amen. Except for Paille and maybe Stafford none of these guys are ready for extended NHL action come playoff time. Fixed that for ya. No, seriously, I think that the young guys have shown they can play, but they aren't ready to carry the load on a nightly basis. I think it ended up being too many young guys all at once - a couple here and there is one thing, but 6,7,8 guys called up? Too much for the AHL'ers to handle. This experience will help them, though - if any of them need to be pressed into action in the playoffs, they have some (mostly positive) experience with the big team, and shouldn't be overwhelmed...
connee Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I don't think they are ready either, but they've gotten great experience. And give them credit for stepping into a high pressure situation and keeping the ship afloat.
wjag Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Each has shown flashes.. But I agree they need a little more seasoning. I hope Ryan makes the team next year. I love his speed. Say what you want Ink, but he was one of a few Sabres who continued to play last night when it got to 0-3.

Bmwolf21 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I think he has the skill, but it's a matter of putting it all together - kind of like Max. How long did we wait until he figured it out?
inkman Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 I think he has the skill, but it's a matter of putting it all together - kind of like Max. How long did we wait until he figured it out? Max was around 23 when he looked for real. Ryan is 26.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Max was around 23 when he looked for real. Ryan is 26. Max just turned 27 at the start of this season, so he was 26 when he had his breakout season (last year at 22-51-73.)

I never said break out season. I said started to look for real. Like a NHL regular. Ryan might not look like that for another 10 years.
Bmwolf21 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I never said break out season. I said started to look for real. Like a NHL regular. Ryan might not look like that for another 10 years. Really? You think he looked "for real" at 23, when he had 5-6-11, -12 in 35 GP (2002-2003) or in 2003-04, when he went 17-14-31, -4 in 74 GP? IMO all Max did for his first few seasons was tease the management and fans with maddening flashes of his potential, but waited until 26/27 to start maximizing (no pun intended) his talent and started utilizing his on-ice teammates... And Ryan - 10 years? Come on. I admit he looked a little lost the first few games, but I think he is proving he has the talent to play in the NHL, probably as a 3rd or 4th liner. He just needs more seasoning, and with all the younger, more highly touted prospects coming up, he'll probably end up sticking in the NHL with another team, or he might end up as a NHL/AHL 'tweener...
