topshelfcookies Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Howdy boys - I received some great jersey info today...I don't mean for the following to sound like a commercial for Great Skate, I could care less about them, but I know that many people are interested in jersey information, as am I, and I wanted to be as thorough as possible. The following should be beneficial for those that live in WNY and can visit the store, or those abroad, who can get stuff from their website. Anyways, today after work, I talked with the manager of Great Skate, a hockey supply store that has been a staple in the WNY hockey community for years, located over in Amherst. GreatSkate is one of the larger retailers of Sabres jerseys, probably the largest when it comes to jerseys, besides the store at the arena. I was inquiring about when the new "form fitting" jerseys, unveiled at the All-Star game would be available for purchase. He informed me that he met with a sales rep from RBK two weeks ago and this is the deal. The RBK "Edge" jersey, as they are calling it, will be made available next October. The blank replica version (lighter weight, slightly different materials than the ultra water resistant, authentic model) will be retailing for about $110, as opposed to a replica this year, which is going for about $80. The manager said that the authentic style will be available, but not through their store. He said that an authentic "Edge" jersey would retail for about $200 or $250. The RBK rep confirmed that there will be NO third/throwback jerseys next season in the NHL. All teams will have a home and away jersey and that's it. A few teams are apparently planning on an overhaul for next season including Atlanta, Dallas and possibly Columbus. The GreatSkate manager said that he had been unable to confirm that the league is absolutely 100% switching back to "home whites", but said that it seems highly likely that the NHL will have all teams wear their "home whites" and "road darks" in 07-08. Great Skate is currently accepting pre-orders for the new style jerseys, and has designated the dark jerseys as roadies and the whites as homes. I asked him what he had heard about the possibility of the Sabres wearing their original crossed sword jerseys at some point next year, and the manager said that any throwbacks will not be worn until at least the 2008-09 season. Seeing about 25 jerseys (white, navy sluggalos as well as some royal blue 3rd jerseys) on the sales rack, I asked him if supply had started to catch up to demand. He laughed and said, yes, but that what was out on the rack had just arrived yesterday, and would most likely be gone by the end of the week. REGARDING THE SUPPLY PROBLEMS THIS YEAR that has caused so much frustration, he said that there were two main problems. The biggest problem was that the material used in the silver piping, running along the sleeve outline, which is similar to basketball dazzle shorts, was next to impossible for RBK to obtain, let alone in the quantities that were needed. Apparently the material is unique, and since it was an integral part of both the home and away, replica and authentic versions, there was no avoiding it. Since RBK couldn't get the material, they couldn't finish production of the jerseys. The second problem was that the Sabres organization didn't officially "sign-off" on the uniforms until about 4 weeks before the official unveiling at the HSBC arena. The late "green light" combined with the material problems apparently led to the huge problems. Finally, the overwhelming response to the jerseys also contributed to the situation, although in the words of the manager, "sure wasn't the problem itself". If you want to pre-order the new style replica Edge jerseys (for any NHL team) here's a link. http://www.greatskate.com/webmodules/catCa...ID=99&ManuID=73. The guy told me that if you place an order and later want to cancel, that's fine, just call the number. Hope this info helps!

Columbus has already announced that they're switching to the logo on their 3rd jersey. They'll probably tweak the jerseys a bit too, but I doubt it would be anything major. Atlanta? PLEASE GET RID OF THE POWER BLUE! Oh, and thanks for the Great Skate ad. :D
carpandean Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 well that seals the deal, i'm going out and buying my original blue and gold NOW! This is where I got my authentic RBK third jersey: http://cgi.ebay.com/Buffalo-Sabres-NEW-X-T...1QQcmdZViewItem He has authentics in 48, 52 and 56, as well as some replicas: http://stores.ebay.com/Hockey-Jersey-Outle...6QQftidZ2QQtZkm He's raised the price a bit since I got mine (from $149 to $179), but seeing as I bought the third of three just five hours into the auction, I am not surprised. It was only $60 to get the name and numbers (including right chest numbers) and took less than two weeks to complete. Get 'em while they last!

Bmwolf21 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 i only gave in because like it or not its here to stay...belive it or not this was the ducks original jersy Whether it's here to stay remains to be seen. As for the Ducks - the one you pictures was their first alternate jersey, not their original jersey. These were the Ducks' original jerseys: Go HERE for a pretty good history of all teams' uniforms. (I think they need to switch servers or something, because the connection keeps timing out.)

Chief Enabler Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Great links guys! I want to see more of that original Ducks "sweater" of the Michelin man looking logo. This is one of my latest favorites. This is REAL TOUGH!, look out! I wouldnt buy a sabres jersey this season now that I know all this. If any of you guys would buy me one I would probably ask you for Pominville. Thanks.
