SabresFanInRochester Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Every night I look at the match-ups on the NHL schedule and root for a team based on who I want to see in/out of the play-offs. But I wonder what other people think. I am wondering for selfish reasons or for competitive reasons, who you would like to see Buffalo play. Is there a team that scares you, so perhaps you would prefer to avoid them; hoping another team knocks them out? Or is there a team that you just cannot stand, and so you do not want them to even make the play-offs? For a great match-up, I would love to see Pittsburgh in the opening round, but I think they are going to finish better than 8th, and I am assuming Buffalo will continue to surge to the #1 seed. I would also love to see Toronto and Carolina miss the play-offs. The Toronto fans piss me off to the extent that players on that team are too annoying to watch. I am rooting against Carolina because I think it would be great to see last year's champs labeled as a team that could not even return to the play-offs the following year. Finally, I am torn on Ottawa making the play-offs. I want revenge on that team, but at the same time, if they did not make it, I would be happy. I think Ottawa is too far ahead to miss the play-offs, but you never know.
wonderbread Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Well if i had my choice i would say i would like to see the Sabres play Florida...But sionce that ain't happening i would like to see the Sabres play Tampa Bay. No reason.
wjag Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I know who I don't want to see: Ottawa, Montreal or Carolina..
Buffalo Wings Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I don't see much point in wishing to play a particular team...each team in the playoffs is there for a reason and is just as dangerous as any other team.
nucci Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Wrong conference... I know but that is who I would like to play in the 1st round.
Stoner Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I can't think of a better way to propel the Sabres all the way than to beat Carolina in the first round. On the other hand, the defending champs could be very dangerous.
jad1 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I can't think of a better way to propel the Sabres all the way than to beat Carolina in the first round. On the other hand, the defending champs could be very dangerous. They haven't proven it this season. I've seen them play a few of times this year (once in person), and they just aren't clicking. From the Sabres point of view, it would be great to knock these guys out of the playoffs, but the Canes might not even make the post season. Playoffs are about matchups, and no team in the East will be able to match up with a reasonably healthy Sabres team. So I'm more concerned with the Sabres injury status than with who'll they'll match up against.
Peace Frog Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 This would be my ideal path to winning the Stanley Cup. The Sabres would win all four series, of course. :D 1st round: Carolina in 4 2nd round: Atlanta in 5 3rd round: Ottawa in 7 (would make a great ECF series) 4th round: Dallas in 6 (game 6 in Dallas in OT, of course)
carpandean Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I can hear it now: "In a surprising turn of events, Philadelphia has rallied behind its deadline acquisition, goaltender Marty Biron, to win out the season, finishing with 80 points. Montreal, Carolina and Toronto?s stall in this last quarter of the season has allowed the streaking Flyers to steal the eighth and final seed in the East. Marty says he is excited to play his former team in the first round of the playoffs." Well, I can dream, can't I? :bag:
apuszczalowski Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 teams I want to see Buffalo face in the first round Toronto, or Philadelphia, Boston before they went on the streak (Don't know why someone said Florida because they usually beat us no matter how well they play) * You didn't say they had to be playoff bound teams Team I don't want to see Buffalo play - Pittsburgh Everyone else would be a good series, and not sure who would come out on top, but it would be close
SabresFanInRochester Posted March 2, 2007 Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 Max, Spacek, Kotalik, Timmy, etc. I guess if the question is "who do you want to see in the first round of the playoffs," I couldn't agree more!
Realist Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I do not want to see Ottawa in the playoffs, they are the one team that I think matches up really well against Buffalo. I know we played pretty good against them with a shorthanded squad last week, but don't forget when Ottawa was without their stars earlier this year, they took it to us pretty good. New Jersey is another one that I'd rather not see, but that's more because Brodeur can steal a couple of games for them. I don't know if anyone has seen Carolina recently, but they are absolutley terrible. They aren't playing together at all. It really is amazing how different they are from last year. The home and home against Ottawa this week, I didn't think the Sens played all that well and Carolina really didn't even belong on the ice with them. I'd love to see the 'canes in the first round, but I'm not even sure they can get it together enough to make the playoffs.
zow2 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Bottom line is any team we play will give us fits. That's the NHL. No pushovers will be in the playoffs. I'd prefer to stay away from Ottawa and NJ as long as possible. I hope someone else can knock them off.
eball Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 For purely selfish reasons, I want to face Carolina in the first round. I'll be able to attend the games down here and I'd like nothing more than to watch Game Four of a Sabres sweep live. It will help heal the wounds of last year's ECF.

Peace Frog Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Were you the guy that just called Mike Schopp about this? Wasn't me. I live in Vancouver, Washington.

bob_sauve28 Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I don't care on a competive level who we play. All the teams have the ability to beat us. But for the love of tradition, I guess, I want to play Montreal. That's always fun. Their fans are really into it and care passoniatly about their team and that makes a difference. New Jersey scares the hell out of me. They do not give up goals and the way we turn it over they might have the formula for beating us.
Hank Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 In order from most to least wanting to face: Boston Carolina Florida Toronto Ottawa Montreal Rangers Islanders Atlanta Tampa Pittsburgh
deluca67 Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Tampa Bay Ottawa New Jersey Nashville To be the best you have to beat the best. No ducking a team. No excuses.
