inkman Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 Linky The Sabres get salary cap relief for Paul Gaustad. The other players could be bargaining chips: Paul Gaustad $675,000 Ales Kotalik $2,000,000 Derek Roy $627,000 Dmitri Kalinin $1,750,000 Martin Biron $2,128,000 Players who might help the Sabres: Bill Guerin $2,000,000 Keith Tkachuk $3,800,000 Kevyn Adams $725,000 Jason Blake $1,558,000 Fredrik Modin $2,204,000 Gary Roberts $2,250,000 Aaron Miller $2,280,000 Does someone want to tell me why Derek Roy is on the list? His cap relief would be minimal, $627,000, and isn't his future brighter than any player on either list? What other player could we bring in at 600,000 that is going to be the kind of impact player Derek is right now and the star he may turn out to be? None.
RayFinkle Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 When the pressure is on, Roy is one of those guys who comes through in the clutch. $675,000 is a bargain for a guy who would be the second line center on MANY teams out there.
niagara66 Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Great post. Roy just might be my favorite player (after Kaleta, natch). He's fast, a terrific stick handler and a real pest. I'd hate him on another team. That one game (can't remember which one) where he almost singlehandedly killed a critical penalty by stickhandling up and down the ice was brilliant. He's an integral part of this team, is a bargain, and has great upside with his youth. Not only that, he's situationally smart and he and Timmah started to get something going a little last year in the playoffs creating SH 2 on 1 in transition. Would like to see them reunited on the PK come April.

Stoner Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Bucky's out there. He said Andrew Peters "beat up" Ray Emery. Another recent gem was his opinion that the Sabres would lose BOTH Briere and Drury.
inkman Posted February 26, 2007 Author Report Posted February 26, 2007 Another recent gem was his opinion that the Sabres would lose BOTH Briere and Drury. It could happen but only if Le Coupe de Stanley is a part of the deal. ;)

Well......I hate to say it, but there is a real risk of this happening (I assume Bucky was referring to free agency, not us trading them at the deadline). I can definitely see each of them getting outrageous offers that the Sabres choose not to match. It only takes one foolish GM with someone else's money burning a hole in his pocket to make, say, a 5-year, $35 million offer.
