How a significant trade can still happen.

The current injuries may be a blessing in disguise, so we can pick up a significant player before the deadline. Here is how, based on the articles published lately:

Awinagainov will be shelved for a minumum of 6 weeks. The end of the season is a shade over 7 weeks away. So if the time table is 6-8 weeks we can keep him out until the playoffs and take his salary off the books. (3.33 mi cap hit this year without taking into account the pro-rateing). Add to that Gaustads 713K salary and that could give us around 4 mil in free cap space now. This shouldn't raise the leagues eyebrows for shenannigans since these are legitimate injuries. Granted if Connolly comes back prior to the playoffs, the additional 700-800K already spent on the called up players will negate Gaustads cap.

We could easily trade prospects for someone like Guerin at a cap hit of 2.4 mil and Seabrook from CHI at 942K cap hit.

Or to add fuel to the fire on the worthless Bertuzzi/Belfour talk. We could trade Biron (2.12 mil) and Kotalik (2.33) to easily fit in Bertuzzi and Belfours combined hit of 6.77 mil. That would be dumb, but it may be possible.

To get to the point, with the recent injuries a significant trade could be made.

Gaustad's money (plus a few extra bucks) is already being used on Dan Paille, so take that out of any calculations.

CHICAGO WILL NOT TRADE SEABROOK!

It's not happening. People need to stop suggesting it. That would be in the same neighborhood as Calgary moving Paneuf.

Just to clarify.

I am not for the Bertuzzi/Belfour trade (thought it was obvious)

Secondly - I just thew out random names of players I knew the salaries of as an example.
