(OT) Common Sabrespace Typos and Poor Grammar That Drive You Mad

On the other hand, you can make language unduly complicated. I had to read that three times to understand what you meant. Using fancy words does not make communication inherently better. -
(OT) Common Sabrespace Typos and Poor Grammar That Drive You Mad

I actually enjoy it, to be honest. A lot of what people call "bad grammar" is actually difference in dialect. Example: "The lawn needs to be mowed" versus "The lawn needs mowed." Both are clear in their meaning. The former is the more common usage, usually considered "standard" in a sense. The latter is peculiar to a small region in southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia, largely settled by Scotts. The grammatical structure is correct in Scottish usage. The "needs mowed" usage has entered colloquial English. A generation ago it was rare to hear this usage outside of region I described; now it's not uncommon to hear it. It's entered the lexicon and is a recognized usage. For as much as people make fun of Rob's grammar, it is part of the dialect he speaks. I'm sure that if the producers of Sabres broadcasts thought it was a problem, they would have suggested he go to a vocal coach and learn "standard" grammar, but we all understand what he's saying, so what's the big deal? -

What can we say? We have the patron saint of proper grammar speaking to us during every game (except the ones exclusive on ESPN+, TNT, NHL Network) -

The only poster that drives me mad when they make simple spelling/grammatical errors is me. I hate having that "edited by" tag because I typed "lost" when I mean "loss" but I'd rather fix the typo than show what an ignorant lout I am. Actually I blame my fingers: I have thoughts in my head and my fingers just type them out; I don't always catch the little mistakes they make. I've come to realize that a lot of us do the same so it's hard to get mad at others; I try to focus on the thought rather than the mistakes. One other thought that occurs to me- not so much on this forum, as those who are in other countries seem to have excellent written English skills, but on my local Nextdoor page, a lot of my neighbors are from Latin American countries and they really struggle with spelling, tenses, etc. I have to remind myself that they are communicating in a language that in many cases they were thrust into and have had to learn on the fly, and for all their errors I realize they're doing much better than if I had to suddenly start writing in Spanish. So we all have our stories; I try not to hold it against people. Except @Buffalonill. That guy........ sheesh. -

I get it, but I think they might have told him if he signed after his junior year, he'd have a shot at the NHL right away. Agreed. I think they told him that to get him to sign. To not keep him up at the beginning of this season would have been going back on their word and spoiling the relationship (if they did, in fact tell him he'd get a shot at an NHL spot to get him to sign).
