  1. Yeah, I didn't want to project the extra exclamation points as trying to make you sound histrionic and not mentioning the concussion was a clear omission on my part. I'll try to clean it up next time. You're right, something bad *could have* happened, but Slafkovsky was fine. We'll see how Bloom does. But at the same time, if you're going to have a real scrimmage between squads from other teams, some of this is to be expected and Slafkovsky is going to have to take a first hit sooner or later. Probably better to absorb one from some random ECHLer than from a full-grown NHLer. In Slafkovsky's case, he's hopefully learned something from that.
  2. But he could have been hurt! And it could have been Power! did I do that right, @Curt?
  3. Watching via the FB feed. I have my McAfee VPN on, not sure if that's part of it.
  4. And Anderson aside, the other signings were clearly grasping at straws, bringing in bodies that no other team considered NHL level goaltending. Aaron Dell had a good start to his career in San Jose before tailing off. His year with the Devils before the Sabres picked him should probably have been the end of his NHL days. Malcolm Subban is an .898 career NHL goaltender and I don't see that getting better in the future. They were both on a downward trajectory. I would have rather seen them give Michael Houser an actual shot at real NHL time to be honest. Comrie has limited success, but he does appear to still be on his upswing.
  5. Right on. I think this is one of the early analytics moves. We'll see if it's successful. Tbh given that they team really doesn't have any young goalies in the system that are NHL ready I'd rather see them take a flyer on an up-and-comer who didn't have a path on his current team than to chase after the success of a proven goalie who might have already peaked and is on the downslide, but still commanding big money.
  6. Paxlovid seems to be working. I'm not sick but I'm not well.
  7. But that's not really an option, is it? I was just countering the point made that Comrie was .905 trash. Maybe he's not consistently a .920 goalie, but he's trending the right way.
  8. So I'm on Paxlovid now. A little metallic taste in my mouth (as some people warned about). The nurse at the dr's office recommended lemon drops and they do mask the taste.
  9. A conservative assessment. I think it's likely that he's better than the others.
  10. Last season: Ullmark - 158gp, .917 sv% Comrie - 28gp, .920 sv% That's exactly what happened last season.
  11. And I'm okay with that. Sports is results based. Until they have a body of work to be proud of, no one is going to think they are any good.
  12. Basically feels like a headcold: Headache, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, perpetually tired. I didn't want to get dehydrated so I downed a Gatorade and now I can get to sleep but wake up every hour to pee. I'm taking OTC cold medicine and it alleviates the symptoms.
  13. Looks like she's accustomed to working with small.... equipment. 😉 Yep. Retook it today. I feel like ***** but it's still a negative result. I'm guessing by the end of the week it will tip over to positive. Meanwhile my Paxlovid-addled wife is slowly improving.
  14. I think it's likely that Comrie is close to Ullmark in terms of ability. So it basically resets the goalie situation before Ullmark walked. We still have a vet (arguably an upgrade over the likes of Tokarski) as backup, and still have UPL hopefully knocking at the door, and others in the pipeline.
  15. More importantly, does he have goalie pads if called upon as EBU goalie?
  16. He's a unicorn. He has a unique combination of physical gifts and skills. He *is* altering the concept of what a QB is, sure, but others have done similar things: Kordell Stewart and Lamar Jackson come to mind in terms of gifted running quarterbacks. But Josh is significantly larger than they are. And now, with an improved offensive line, he doesn't have to run as often, and he has more time to make his reads. Taking the running dimension away, he's one of the better passers in the league and is still getting better. Add the running back in and yeah, he's a unicorn.
  17. ...and Josh is arguably as good as the other two, possibly better.
  18. One last thing: Granato said his first priority was to develop the offense up to now. I expect that to shift; not that he will cut off the offense at the knees but that he will focus more on defense and the development of his young defensive studs. With that shift in focus I think no matter who is between the pipes for the Sabres, they will see improvement.
  19. He didn't talk about Buffalo for very long but he boiled it down nicely.
  20. The Hockey Guy is one of my regular watches. The guy puts out an enormous amount of content for a one-man operation (his wife helps him pull together data for game reviews on busy NHL nights).
