Yeah, kind of has a "let them eat cake" feel to it.

No, just the sound of it. Adding the "n't" to could softens the sound of the word. Could care less is stark and to the point. Couldn't care less seems contemplative and wishy-washy to me.

But earlier in the season they *did* seem to understand his system. What happened?

He's had plenty of time to implement his plan. In fact early in the season the team seemed to have a better handle on Lindy's system than they do now.

I've thought about this and actually both can be correct. "Couldn't care less" means that someone's caring is at rock bottom; i.e., they don't care at all. But "could care less" can mean the same thing in a sarcastic, ironic sense. And personally, that second one seems to hit harder than the first- just the sound of it.

One of the reasons I like him is he's outside the echo chamber of the Sabrehood.
