  1. At the NHL level I expect nothing from Savoie. His time will come but it's not here yet.
  2. Kind of. I think I figured it out: Remember a year or two ago, the NHL said teams can now sell up to... was it 25%? stake in a franchise? This may be the precursor to a move to sell a stake in the Sabres to an investor.
  3. There was. It was led by Kevyn and Donny Meatballs. Terry still thinks he's in charge but he hasn't been for a while.
  4. Is this significant or just a reshuffling of the deck chairs to make the accountants happy?
  5. It helps if there is a trade during the season. If the compensation is $10 million but $9 million is signing bonus, the acquiring team only has to pay the player the remaining prorated portion of the $1 million salary. Note the cap hit is still $10 million. This is why the Ben Bishop and Johnny Boychuk acquisitions were good for Buffalo when they were far below the cap. Kevyn brought in cap hit at little actual expense to the team.
  6. I follow Lynda Carter on Twitter. She seems like a genuinely nice person. There are a few celebrities I follow on Twitter and Facebook not so much because they're my favorite artists, but because they seem like nice people. Also include Danny Trejo, Dionne Warwick and Henry Winkler on that list. With all the excesses that you hear about in show business, it's nice to find out there are stars who live wholesome lives. And yeah, I kind of think Lynda is easy on the eyes. But that's not the point. I used to be a rocket scientist, so there is that...
  7. I kind of feel like Mitts will be some sort of bellwether for the Sabres. He isn't one of the Big Stars but he's close. Will he give a hometown discount to stay with something that's building into hopefully a perennial contender or will he maximize his earnings by jumping elsewhere? Will he grow into a veteran leader with the team or will he be eclipsed by the young talent pushing up? It's a pivotal time for the Sabres and a pivotal time in Casey's career.
  8. Basically the Fediverse is something that if you code a platform correctly, anyone can tap into it. Mastodon is the open source software that does that. So anyone can set up Mastodon on their server and tap into the Fediverse, which is basically like a decentralized Twitter. Each server is moderated by the server owner. They moderate other servers that don't follow common sense rules of decorum by "defederating" from the offending servers (basically, blocking the whole server and all their users). So instead of a single megalomaniac controlling the platform it's controlled by all the individual server owners. Threads is a Meta offshoot (Meta owns Facebook and Instagram). It was developed by Instagram and intended to be similar but more text-based. It's intended to be a Twitter competitor. I don't think it's hooked up to the Fediverse yet but there are reports that that is the intent for Threads. If/when Threads joins the Fediverse it could become a viable alternative and fierce competitor to Twitter. I have an account on a Mastodon server; I signed up last autumn when there were reports of Twitter's imminent demise (which never happened). So far it's nothing like Twitter in that there are very few official corporate or professional accounts there, but there are a lot of people there. I could see Threads injecting that corporate/professional focus that would make me and a lot of other people feel like we can cut the Twitter cord once and for all. Oh, and I understand about thermo. I did just well enough to never have to take it again (and even then I think the professor was just being nice).
  9. I woke up late, then on the way to work there was one of those signs that shows freeway conditions and said there was a "major accident" on my route. I diverted around and took a route through a sketchy area. Apparently the ballers were sleeping off their nightly intoxication because traffic was almost non-existent on those surface streets and I made it to work on time. Barely.
  10. I just want to watch this thread to read everyone’s almost assuredly reasonable, thoughtful and friendly takes on this contract value. I don't think Adams gives him that much. More like 5, but what do I know? That's just a gut feel reaction.
  11. If I was GM for a day I would make every player reverse their numbers. So Cozens would become 42, Skinner 35, Tage 27, etc. For players with repeated numbers or single digit numbers I would make the digits in their numbers 11 minus (the current number). Fight me.
  12. I'm over on Mastodon. Really not much in the way of "official" accounts there. Threads was promising because it was supposed to be on the Fediverse which is basically the Mastodon open source backbone.
  13. Do you suppose they think the same of you?
  14. It'd be funny if the Sabres were the contender who bought him back at the deadline.
  15. "OMG remember when Uncle Mike got heatstroke at our wedding LOL!" "Who could forget! 😄 "
  16. Ah, just north of DFW Airport. I'm about 35 miles SW of the airport. Summer weddings suck even in normal heat. But we're well beyond normal heat. I think they're saying this is currently the 3rd hottest? summer on record (as measured by 100 degree days, and we're still adding to that).
  17. All he did is refuse to adapt to changes in public expectations. He was part if the media. The media didn’t force him out. The public that consumes the media forced him out. If there wasn’t public backlash, the company that employed him wouldn’t have cared. He was an entertainer who was no longer entertaining because the public changed and he didn’t. Every business knows you have to change or die. It is as simple as that. Ron Maclean wasn’t the reason he was let go. The “liberal media” wasn’t the reason he was let go. He was a dinosaur who’s act was no longer entertaining. In fact, it had become offensive as he doubled down on it. The "he" Wookie is talking about is Maclean; Weave, you're talking about Cherry (I believe). My response to Wookie is that yes, Maclean bowed down because (as Weave said) he read the room and did what was required to rehab his rep. Cherry couldn't back down.
  18. I've been to a few of those. Yuck. What city are you going to?
