  1. Yeah, if I think of famous music acts out of Buffalo, Rick James and Spyro Gyra are the two that come to mind. And unless you're into jazz fusion you probably haven't heard of Spyro Gyra.
  2. Corporate cracked down on us for having "Safety Meetings" during happy hour 😛
  3. I never went to Anchor Bar when I lived in Buffalo, went for the first time just a few years ago. I mean if you're from Buffalo, why to out of your way? Just go to the neighborhood wing joint. It's more of a tourist site than a real place to eat now, is the sense I got. Buffalo Wild Wings is like Texas Roadhouse: Neither of them has any roots in the place that is in their name. BWW came out of Ohio and is now owned by the same company that owns Arby's.... that should be all you need to know about that abomination. (Texas Roadhouse started in Inidana, by the way.) Same. Generic emo grunge to me. fify
  4. That's kind of the point of this thread (in my mind when I started it)... when people talk about "Buffalo things", what are the things you never got involved with because it happened after you left?
  5. All Buffalo stuff is tribalism at its root, and tribalism, in the extreme, is dumb.
  6. I won't say it was UPL or the team in front of him that gave the Sabres the win today; it was a combination of both playing well enough to win.
  7. Lots of jobs do a criminal background check on applicants. If there are several qualified candidates I would say that it is in the business's best interest to hire the qualified candidate with a clean record over the candidate with a conviction, from a liability standpoint.
  8. In my experience it seems that they tend to be in the more rural areas and gas is more expensive in rural areas. Not sure if that's just a coincidence or not. My wife's family lives in the Albany area and my sense is that Stewart's is just a steady, calming presence. It's where you can get something quick when you need it, it's where you can get a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze with your mates. It's like if comfort food was a convenience store.
  9. People have mentioned that the Sabres didn't look good, especially the forwards. I think this is a direct result of playing an 11/7 lineup. When your linemates are constantly being changed, you lose that natural feel of knowing where to expect your linemate to be. That's my take on it anyway. The only forward that seems to do better playing with 11 Fs is Olofsson. He seems to put in a little more effort and backchecks better. Weird, huh?
  10. The Hawk literally hooked Power's stick and pulled it into his own face. WTF.
  11. The Leafs, Panthers, Lightning, Canes, Wings, Stars, Sabres apparently disagree. If he’s getting that much interest, he must look good on the ice. Those teams may disagree, but Ed Jovanovski, Nicklas Backstrom, Carl Hagelin and Ryan Kesler agree: It's not something you come back from and play for any length of time.
  12. That's why it wasn't a thing: It was automatically blue cheese. Once a year if I'm lucky. But with my mom's advanced years, I spend most of the time with her and not that much time out and about.
  13. Which will be a mistake once they figure out that after the surgery he's had, VO is ten times better and they will sign Kane for 2-3 years. The contract will be an anchor on the team.
  14. I like Schwabl's in West Seneca. Close to my mom's house. Speaking of mom.... The guy with us is Frank, mom's mate for the last 20+ years. They do pretty good for 92 and 87.
  15. Fun game to watch. In the end, we were killed by the youth- the flukey goal deflected (or at least screened) by Power, and Benson taking the late stupid penalty.
