When my son was in HS (band nerd, not football team, but I went to the games), the football team got their butts handed to them every year by three strong teams in their district. A good year was when they beat the two other teams in the district. They never had better than a 3-7 season. Then when my son was a junior, they got their butts handed to them by one of the strong teams, making them 1-4 on the season so far. The next week was Homecoming against the second strong team. In a muddy mess of a rain storm, they came out ahead, 10-6. The following week they played the third strong team and.... beat them too. They didn't lose for the rest of the season and won a state championship (this is Texas, mind you). But only by being challenged did they get any better.

That was a week ago Friday. This past Friday I was going to get a fish fry at our local Buffalo bar. They had the fish fry but their daily special was a Cuban sandwich. I lurve me a good Cuban.

AND coleslaw. You missed the third cup. Plus they have the option to sub out American potato salad for German.

For years people complained that the Sabres had no toughness. Now they bring in a guy just for that and people complain. So Sabresy.

I agree; we'll have to wait and see. And yet, if they finally a standard to follow that produces wins, and a rallying cry "This is how we play", it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think for it to work, you need the elder statesmen of the team giving full support to the upstarts and recognizing their contributions. They have to support the Crest, not individual factions in the room like they did int he Eichel era.

And yet the drop pass persists.

mjd is correct. You can't backload contracts to gain cap space up front in the NHL.
