  1. All the reasons you say Reino wanted to go are reasons Mitts wants to stay. If they trade Mitts it'll go down as one of the worst trades ever.
  2. But then they wouldn't be off-topic, would they?
  3. Trading Reino tells me we don't want to let Mitts go.
  4. Sure, let me tell you all about it.
  5. When I lived there, the octopus was just a thing for the playoffs, reflecting the number of wins needed under the old format. I didn't see it as the actual team mascot. Maybe it's evolved over the years.
  6. At this point I loathe all-star events (I won't even call them games).
  7. Houston.
  8. We've been through that in another thread. Most of us qualify for the Denny's senior discount.
  9. Nope. Don't remember that one.
  10. Generally I agree but if they came out too spicy hot, I'll dip in the blue. No, there's more to it than that. Celery also acts as a brush to scrub the hot sauce out of your mouth. Both serve a purpose, and the celery is more than just blue cheese delivery.
  11. Agree, but how often do you see them ordered anymore? For Beef on Weck my favorite Buffalo places are Schwabl's in West Seneca and Ulrich's Tavern on Ellicott Street in the city. Ulrich's has that "old tavern" feel (I guess it's the oldest bar in the city). I'm thankful that there is a Buffalo native who's opened up a bar near me here in Fort Worth, Texas.
  12. It's a niche thing. The were "the food of Buffalo" prior to the advent of wings.
  13. Counterpoint, and this is from a NYC guy: Is America’s Pizza Capital Buffalo, New York?
  14. There's a functional reason for blue cheese and celery. They're basically fire extinguishers if your wings are two hot for comfort.
  15. Your complete Guide to Buffalo English. It's a bit dated but a good read. It doesn't definitively answer your question but it's mentioned in there. I know the original author of this piece. The chiding version drives me nuts, and it's used by some 'Spacers: "Do better."
  16. I think this is from when Jack wasn't being lazy....
  17. Perhaps he doesn't want to miss time again if he takes a shot to the yap.
  18. I remember the impression being that ERod was just someone brought in to make Jack happy since they both went to BU. He was always okay I think, but not flashy and not part of the core. Versatile though.
  19. Yep, and it starts at a young age. Student athletes get away with far too much in terms of personal conduct if they're exceptionally talented. My son had a friend when he was in middle school. He was a pretty happy-go-lucky kid and didn't look for trouble. He got randomly jumped by one of the kids on the MS football team, got his nose bloodied, all that. The football player wasn't injured at all. My son's friend got suspended for fighting, the athlete got off scot-free. And no, you're not ruining a budding athlete's career by holding them to the same standards as non-athletes. My wife teaches high school and failed the place kicker on the football team. There's "no pass, no play" state law. The coach and even the principal tried to get my wife to pass the kid but he literally hadn't done ANYTHING all marking period, so she refused. They were pissed but they were not going to push it because the team can get in trouble if they play an athlete that's not passing (forfeit games with ineligible players, disqualified from playoffs). This was when the kid was a sophomore. By the time he was a senior he recognized the value of being held accountable and literally thanked my wife for failing him. He got a college football scholarship.
  20. Counterpoint: If a player plays in such a way that he exposes himself to injury- blocking shots, not leaving enough room to stop before hitting the boards, etc., and they miss games because of that, that is being injury prone. So far from what I've seen, Muel and Quinn are both injury prone in that they play "too" hard. To get off that injury prone list, they need to learn how to be just as effective, or close to it, without taking undue risk.
  21. Interestingly, Evan Rodrigues has had a decent NHL career. Nearly a .5 ppg player with a career +/- of +16. He can step into top-six duty when needed and does pretty well. He's pretty much what the Sabres hoped they were getting when they signed him coming out of college undrafted.
  22. Yeah, and let him find his own way home.
