This is a terrible take when we have 4 games in hand over the team 6 points ahead of us, and 2 games in hand over the team 4 points ahead of us, a team by the way, that is on a 3-game losing streak. You talk about the team's inevitable fade as if you didn't watch the last two months of last season.

I agree. Chris Pronger played for years in the NHL after his heart was stopped by a puck that hit him.

I'm willing to follow the process. ECF might be a stretch this year (maybe not, who knows). But just like the the expression "you have to win with the team you've got" I'd say "you have to enjoy the wins you're getting now" and not look too far ahead. You don't think there's been steady progress for the last two years?

The part of the exchange I didn't write is where he talked about how much better Detroit is doing than Buffalo. Yes I know they're close in the standinngs. On the other hand, they simply aren't playing well right now.

I got into a discussion with a Detroit fan and mentioned that while Yzerman was a wizard in TB, things aren't working out so well in Detroit, at least not yet. The response was, "Well at least we're not Buffalo." He thought the Wings were actually ahead of the Sabres still. Heh.

Picking up Clague and Jost without sacrificing assets was pretty good too, although I suspect the analytics and scouting departments had a big hand in both.
