  1. I've been hard on McDermott's coaching over the years, but he's putting on a master class in defensive coaching over the last two games, especially with the injuries they've seen. Players are stepping up all over the place. EDIT: It seems like he has, in fact, learned from the passive prevent that permitted 13 seconds to occur. Even with a bang up defense, the Bills defended pretty aggressively right up to the end.
  2. It may be too late for this season. I hope not, but it could be. But I feel like this team is turning a corner. Suddenly UPL is 4-1-1 in his last six and is stringing good games together, even when they lose. If that's true it will give Levi some time to round into form playing backup minutes. I think someone said the Sabres need to take 2 out of 3 the rest of the way to have a shot. UPL might be able to give them that. I know SJS is a really bad team, but at the end of the game the Sabres were rolling effective lines, keeping the Sharks hemmed in and applying pressure. Late last season they were doing that against all comers. Maybe they're figuring it out again, this time before the All Star break. I'm not saying they're on the right track, but they could be.
  3. ENs are not "cheap" or "throwaway" goals. They secure victory and keeps the other team from creeping back in.
  4. We had below zero temps in February, 2021. -2 at DFW Airport, 2/17/21
  5. We didn't get the sleet and freezing rain they predicted in north Texas; we got about a half inch of snow. In Texas that must means the ice is delayed by a day. The way it works is the highways won't be plowed or salted, but traffic on the snow will melt it, then it will freeze overnight and be very slick in the morning. We got down to 10 degrees here. Not as bad as some cities I know, but still pretty cold. They're predicting it will stay below freezing until Wednesday.
  6. Nope. It's the man-made CO2.
  7. Yeah well, that's how bad the Sabres are.
  8. I'll take my Texas "cold" snap, thanks. Same in Texas.
  9. I've seen rumors of #2.
  10. I heard @PASabreFan is on the trading block. Kevyn offered him to Philly for Gritty, but Philly wants Adams to throw in a 7th round pick and Kevyn is being stubborn. For realz though... I could see Jokijarju getting traded.
  11. This aged well. They have nothing special, really. I give credit to McDaniel for trying some new things, but they aren't so novel that other coaches can't adjust to them. And beyond that, he's below average as a coach. If I'm not mistaken, the Fins have beat only two teams with a winning record over the last two seasons.
  12. I'll tell you what: Them's some fancy stats right there.
  13. In the video, Shannon points out that the Sabres finished strong last season, and the expectation was for that to continue, but instead they fell off the table. I still have hope they make the playoffs but I would still give them an F on their first half.
  14. I saw that and I full agree with Shannon.
  15. Tomorrow will probably be the worst day of the cold snap- freezing rain and ice. There's a big difference between snow and ice. North Texas probably gets more ice than snow. Several years ago we had 4" of ice on the road Travel was ridiculous.
  16. Our last house had electric heat. This one has gas; I prefer that.
  17. We'll see how the grid does. I don't think this one is catching anyone by surprise. So far, so good. https://www.ercot.com/gridmktinfo/dashboards The biggest concern is freezing pipes; my house sits on an unheated crawl space. We did okay in the Big Freeze. The secret is keep the water moving in the pipes: Drip the faucets, run the dishwasher and washing machine at night. Worked last time. It's down to 27°F; the predicted low overnight is 15°F. These homes just aren't built for that, especially the plumbing.
  18. During the Sabres game this afternoon the temperature dropped from 63 to 39°F.
