  1. Keep the pipeline filled.

    Now, I want to make sure I have this right: this isn't a Sabres contract, correct? This is purely an Amerks deal, which means no call up unless the Sabres sign him?

    "The RIT senior has agreed to terms on a one-year American Hockey League contract with the Buffalo Sabres organization for the 2015-16 season."

  2. The Sabres most likely will pull this off.

    If they don't, my blame will go towards a powerplay that's scored 7 goals in the last 7 games. They only had 20 pp goals in the 1st 66 games.

    Getting the powerplay to go stone cold again and sneaking a point or 2 against the Loafs would essentially clinch it. If the pp stays hot; they've got trouble.

    And the odd thing was that the PP seemed to get hot when they put Ennis at the point. Now Ennis is out and the PP is still hot. Weird.

  3. I think he goes pro immediately though.

    That's what the article concluded too. Still... you never know.

    for the sabs to put up 40 SOG is nothing short of amazing tho.

    I watched the game and they kept announcing the shots on goal, but I didn't get the sense that we were outshooting them. Maybe it's just such foreign territory my brain can't wrap itself around the concept.

  4. They broke 50 points, that is an accomplishment with this team. Nolan deserves all the credit. Not sure if that helps him much.

    Fell asleep, couldn't watch, but I find it ironic a TM defenseman won the game...Mess even the king of shart this season.

    The last couple of games it seems apparent that 1) Messy likes to score, and 2) he's auditioning for next year's contract.

  5. They are definitely playing harder than they have all season, especially for a whole game.

    I still expect them to complete the tank, but I have to say I'm encouraged that they are playing with that killer instinct late into games. I would have preferred to have the December winning streak now (with losses at that time) so the lead on the shart would have been bigger, then I could enjoy their current play more.

    If the Sabres do end up with Eichel, there's a chance he won't join the team next year. I read an article where several NHLers that jumped out of the NCAA after one season said they wished they'd stayed another year or two. The article pointed out that Eichel is an exceptional player, but he could still conceivably stay in college another year.

    I think if the Sabres got him that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. It would give the Sabres a season to build up before getting their premium player dumped in their lap.

  6. OK, trying to find something to make things feel better.  Ask yourself this: what is the chance, now, that the Sabres hold on to 30th?  Call that p.  If we assume that Edmonton is out (even if they lose all 6 games after going 5-1-2 in their last 8, the Sabres would have to go 6-0-0, 5-1-0, 5-0-1 or 4-0-2 to pass them), then the chance of McEichel is:

    McE = p + 0.335(1-p)

    Optimist?  p = 0.75 --> McE = 83%

    Neutral? p = 0.50 --> McE = 67%

    Pessimist? p = 0.25 --> McE = 50%

    p = 89%
