  1. I feel like if more people knew about this every Hummer dealership would use it to beef up their sales.

"See look! We didn't ###### up! (well, we did, but we fixed it, or someone else took time to fix it for us....) So yeah! Hummers for everyone!"

They stopped producing Hummers in 2010, FYI.  Pick another gargantuan going forward.

  2. I'm not a fan of Kaleta, but I will say he has given his all and then some in his time with the Sabres ... 10 years now, I believe.

Actually he has a decent scoring touch when he gets the opportunity.  It's just that his primary role on the team is as an agitator so he doesn't get a lot of scoring opportunities.

Well, one for sure.  It's a long story for another thread, but your vocabulary and it's use is appreciated.

    your two kind

  3. If they finish 29th behind Arizona, then it would also be fine for the 'Yotes to win the lottery.

Sez you.  I want it all.

    Thanks for that one :flirt:

Apparently I'm single-handedly expanding the vocabulary of SS members.

  4. If guys like Lindros and Gretzky can get traded, I wouldn't rule out the Sabres trading up from #3 to #2.     Everybody is talking about getting stuck with the #3 pick, but I have a feeling GMTM has something up his sleeve if that scenario presents itself.

I know, I know, nobody is gonna trade out of a spot to draft Eichel.... BUT this is a special case since ARI is likely angling for their own homegrown Auston Mathews in 2016 who is putting up better numbers that Eichel did at the same age in the same program.    A package that includes both 2015 firsts, 2016's first and somebody like Girgensons/Reinhart and Zadorov (who i think GMTM is gonna try and move anyway), would probably get it done to move up 1 spot.

Gretzky was traded late-ish in his career and it was a pretty extraordinary event at the time.

Lindros was traded because he was being a punk:  he made it clear he would never sign with Quebec (now Colorado), and Quebec made the best of a bad situation by trading him for basically all of Philly's prospects and draft picks.  It's notable that the trade brought the Cup to the Quebec/Colorado franchise but not to Philly.

And if Phoenix gets their hands on McEichel, they're not going to pass on that to maybe get Matthews next year.  That's just insane.

  5. Strome has moved up to #3 on most boards.  If close with Hanifan, I see them taking a center.

It kind of depends.  You know the April Fools thread that talked about trading the Sabres pick to Colo?  If GMTM thinks Hanifin can be packaged in a trade to get one of those "elite" centers we keep talking about, he may just do it.  The reason it was a good April Fools prank was because it was believable.  GMTM may want to trade a top prospect for an NHL-ready player.

  6. Didn't watch any of the game.  Saw the highlights on NHL.com.  I was out riding my bicycle 30 miles.  Gorgeous night except for the 15 mph headwind on the second half of the ride.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about winning the shart at this point, but neither am I all that upset about it.  It will be what it will be and any histrionics on my part won't affect it.  I'm hoping that the Sabres bring 30th home or barring that, that they win the lottery.

No matter what happens on that front, I love seeing Risto, Zads, Larsson, Girgs, Grigo, and the rest growing up before my eyes.  As they and the others still in the pipeline mature I think the Sabres will be capable of winning the Cup.  To win you need a good team but you also need some lucky bounces along the way.  I think the Sabres will be within a few favorable bounces of the Cup for several years and will likely win it with the core that's being assembled.  I hope the first favorable bounce involves a lottery ball.

  7. @BuffNewsVogl: Just got interesting email from fired-up Sabres season-ticket holder. Excerpt to follow:

@BuffNewsVogl: "For two years we were polite, did not boo, etc. because we realized we could get some great talent in the draft to move forward .." (1)

@BuffNewsVogl: "Now Nolan and these players are acting like they are in the Stanley Cup Finals (one down six more wins to go -- REALLY?)." (2)

@BuffNewsVogl: "They are kicking the fans in the groin. If they blow this opportunity for McDavid or Eichel, the fans will not forget and will not forgive"

If that came from someone identified as Anonymous, wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, I'd be scared. As it is, if the Sabres put a winning product on the ice next year (McEichel or not), fans will be in the seats.

  8. The players should be embracing the tank as much as anyone. Had we decided to go a different route in rebuilding this team half the guys in tonight's lineup would be where they belong. Either the AHL or Domino's.

Those players would be highly motivated to *not* tank.  This is their opportunity to show an NHL team that they deserve an NHL contract.  They are no doubt grateful that they're in the Sabres went this way so they could get to the NHL, but if they can close out the season strong they may convince someone to give them an NHL contract.

  9. I really don't want players' motivating factor to be tweaking the fan base.

But when the fan base is actively rooting for the other team, what do you expect?  This really is uncharted territory for all parties involved - the ownership, the players, the fans, the organization.  There is standard fan protocol - you know what it is innately - that tells you when to cheer and when to boo, but I don't think this situation is covered by that.

  10. I say "thanks for nothing."  If players want to "screw" the team by costing them 30th out of spite, then that's a real slap in the face to the fans that have come out and cheered them for the last two miserable years.  I'll say it again, if they are so full of pride then why not play like it earlier?  When the Sabres went on their midseason tear I was ready to root for the playoffs. But now with 6 games to go, what are they proving by winning meaningless games? That they want to stick it to the man?

What about the players (and coach) that know they aren't part of the long term solution and will be gone as soon as the end of the season?  They need to play for their next job.  Lindback won't have a job after the Pittsburgh game.  Neither will Benny and the Mess.  If they want a job in hockey next year, they need to impress now.  They have no more attachment to the fans than the fans have for them.
