  1. I was always a fan, but I started really paying attention day to day in my teens when Ted Nolan began coaching.
  2. Terry wanted to see his organization make mistakes. Time might tell with this one. We either get better over the next three years or we're headed right for the shitter for the next five plus.
  3. Yeah, that knock on TC was well before he had been resigned for $5M, but everyone knew. They knew.
  4. The problem is now we don't have a head coach.
  5. After last night's game, I was able to see the low this team had put itself in. This move should not be celebrated, as it is only a sign of how epicly bad this team is. We're losing a coach I really enjoyed, but we're also losing a rock of stability in the organization that had been with us for 16 years, unheard of in professional sports. That's how bad this team is- it was able to overturn a 16 year staple of the organization, one that had survived several owners, bankruptcy, and a couple of playoff droughts. Despite being the best coach in Sabres history and standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the best in the history of the league, this team created such a problem for itself, that there was no way but to end that. I look forward to the future, but the coming days are truly some of the darkest days in the history of the Buffalo Sabres. The Stanley Cup now looks farther away than ever.
  6. Pants need hemming?
  7. Teams' starting lineups line up on their blue lines for the anthems. Tim Connolly at C for Buffalo. The arena lights go down, the announcement is made to remove your hats for the anthems, and the crowd quiets down. There's a five second delay before the anthem singer begins. It was a brief few moments of pure silence before 18,595 where you could hear a pin drop, and then some guy in the 300s yells as loudly as possible: The entire arena laughs at TC and the anthem begins. I still shout that to my buddy and we get a laugh. It wasn't exactly the pinnacle of wit, but the timing and execution were truely perfect.
  8. "Mike, can you grab the Tuna?" "Coming right up!"
  9. Someone call up the Cheektowaga library and tell them to stop letting retards drool on the computers.
  10. I'm fine with this. Cheers to his health.
  11. Hopefully it's Leino getting healthy, but I haven't heard any evidence of that.
  12. Really? Really?
  13. So net trade: Pominville, Stafford, Leopold, Sekera, Brennan for O'Reilly, Frk, Shagg, Rask, 1st, 3rd, conditional 2nd Can't wait to see this year's record.
  14. Here's what folks are kicking around like they're facts: http://bleacherrepor...ut-ryan-oreilly Sounds like NYR was willing to go Del Zotto for O'Reilly straight up, and Avs wanted another prospect (likely one that was a former 1st round pick- Miller was 15th overall, Kreider 19th), and NYR said nope. So if you believe that some team will pay what NYR declined to give, then my hopeful trade gets a little funnier. If you believe NYR just set the market by refusing Del Zotto+1st rounder, Stafford+2nd stays within the bounds of taste. As I mentioned years ago in this thread, the equivalent of two first round picks for O'Reilly is borderline lunacy, and I'm kind of glad NYR recognized that.
  15. Heard it was Avalanche that called NY about Del Zotto + pick and didn't want to package another player/pick with O'Reilly, and that's when the Rangers hung up.
  16. But I'd happily take a 2nd over nothing.
  17. Nevar! Just kidding, I'd happily part with Stafford and the equivalent of a 2nd round prospect/pick (except Jake McCabe) for O'Reilly and a 4th.
  18. If Cody stays and Hecht stays, Grigorenko doesn't get much ice time. Ehrhoff isn't going anywhere. Enzo shouldn't be going anywhere.
  19. Conspiracy theory time! Fascinating. Since this was the last game of the home stand, that means the scouts were likely here to watch this Sabres game and this game only. Seeing as how Leopold was scratched for the first time this season, and Brennan played his first game in 10 days, I'd say Brennan has a huge target on his back. Leopold may either be a known quantity or is not gathering much interest with those teams.
  20. Actually, yes, I would. BUT it'd be worthwhile (and funny) to consider that Colorado management doesn't actually know what it's doing. Blue knows what's up. I suppose you could summarize my point this way, although it's a little simplistic: Depending on how you value Hodgson, Ennis is our 4th best forward. If we trade him to get O'Reilly, O'Reilly (hopefully) would become our 4th best forward, but we've traded away at least a moderately good prospect to do that. To me, Ennis for O'Reilly is still a wash and you've traded a high-skill guy for a two-way guy. Stafford, Gerbe, perhaps Foligno, et al, are not our 4th best forwards, so if you trade them instead, you likely improved the top six, and that improvement could be worth the cost of a moderately good to very good prospect.
  21. Actually, yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sX2cP5QqVU Journeyman center, had pretty good numbers in the A, but never translated fully to the NHL. Played for 3 NHL teams and 2 AHL teams last season alone. Now playing in the K.
  22. Feel like we could fleece someone for a later 1st round pick in exchange for Leopold and a 3rd round pick.
  23. Not a jam, not until Grigs/Girgs are ready. It also wouldn't kill Foligno or Stafford to play the 3rd line. We need the highest quality players playing as much as possible. If that comes at the expense of Ennis moving to wing, or current 4th liners playing less, those are easy choices. Plus, if Hodgson or O'Reilly went down with injury for some reason, Ennis is versatile enough to step right in if Grigs/Girgs weren't ready yet.
  24. Holy ######, about ###### time. Initially in the season, he was getting big minutes because he was the only defenseman besides Ehrhoff that was taking care of the puck, despite egregiously misreading defensive plays, and he actually had maybe two games where he improved a little. But then about three games ago, both of those elements of his game got worse- he started causing turnovers and reading the play worse. I think the confident ability to scratch him has come from Myers' recent improvement and Regehr's return to health. I would absolutely not be surprised if Brennan plays on the powerplay tonight and a major part of the game plan is to murder Winnipeg with their 65.9% PK.
  25. I knew this to be true. But I thought there was an exception for deflections; there is, but only for a the specific case of a defender clearing the puck out and deflecting off a defender back into the defensive zone: Also, if the play is initially ruled as a delayed offsides, then the puck needs to be passed or carried back in. (not the case here)
