IMHO - he forgot an important piece to his plan, which was to acquire enough productive vet support to make the team competitive until the young guys are ready. Aside from the notion on not blocking youngsters, he has failed to bring in enough shorter term vets to bridge the gap.

Sure, but this is a sad state of affairs that the team does not have enough confidence in their forwards to dress 12 of them. Yes TNT is out, but there should be adequate depth to still dress 12 actual forwards. It should never be the PLAN to dress 11 forwards, that's amateur hour stuff from management and coaching.

I hate seeing this....11-7....decision makes no sense to me at all. Maybe DG should also do 10-8 and play Bryson too (sarcasm). There's multiple forwards not playing well including Cozens, so maybe skate 3 full lines and play 9 forwards (more sarcasm).

The discussion on GMKA should maybe have it's own thread.....meanwhile back to Granato, I cannot help but question the collective knowledge of our coaching staff. IMHO - the team is too often not ready to play at the drop of the opening puck. There are ongoing (multi year) issues with the PP, faceoffs and a general willingness to go to the hard spots vs. playing a soft perimeter game. I don't think GMKA is telling him what to do on the ice. The 11-7 lineup is the icing on the cake....I'd like to see the Sabres move on from DG.

Agree...plus thanks to GMKA, there are simply not enough forwards on the roster who have any NHL experience. Granted calling Krebs "experienced" is a stretch, but compared to our prospects, he's a vet. If GMKA had done his job, then it's a much easier decision by management to consider alternatives to Krebs.

IDK, but I thought he has been struggling throughout this young season. I really expected more from him to this point. I cannot help but wonder if he got any bigger or stronger in the off-season as he seems "weak" physically to my eye. I don't see much speed, physical engagement and frankly not much production. What I do see is a lot of mistakes and turnovers. I love the kid, but not the way he's playing right now.

Yes....exactly! IMHO he was that bad tonight. If he's hurt, than sit him until he can play his game. If he is not hurt, then he needs to be sent a message from the coaching staff to get his act together.

Cozens failed to clear the zone with about 25 second left...almost like he tried to touch pass it out....just a poor game overall from him. I'd really like to see DG sit him out next game as he is really causing more damage than good.

Cozens really bad tonight....he could have simply skated two more strides and shot it towards the open net.

Yep....they have 10 points in 15 games and a -15 goal differential....yet they look like more than a match for our high-potential Sabres.

Feels like we've been saying this forever....yet it seldom happens. I want a coach who DEMANDS this from his players!

I'm not so sure our Sabres team has developed a good 200 foot game either.

I agree for the most part, but as the theme of the thread is about coaching....I would be of the opinion that a coaching staff change is still needed in addition to the personnel moves you laid out. Yes it's possible Granato might get this team to the playoffs, but I have my doubts he can achieve any more than that.

Maybe 10 games or so too late....will probably be another 20 games before marshmallow meatballs does it again. BTW, his power play still sucks.

IMHO - the organization has made progress......for the 2025/2026 season. This 2023/2024 version still lacks key pieces and the right mix of players to deliver on the promise of the playoffs.

Remember the OLD gloves from decades ago,,,,had the extra long cuffs on them! Maybe more protection, but lousy for stickhandling. 🙂

So how long are we supposed to wait for this to happen....3, 4 more years?!?! IMHO the organization itself set the expectation that this is the year they break the playoff drought, so now it is fair to hold them accountable to do so.

I don't expect GMKA to do make any deals....too f'in stubborn and would rather see the team fall further behind than deviate from his plan.

Our PP really misses Sam Reinhart, who BTW is playing pretty awesome right now.
