Interesting research thanks! I would be curious if you have also looked at it a different way. What percentage of total goals does each team's top 4 players represent? For example, if the Sabres top 4 goal scorers account for 75% of the total team goals, where would that 75% fall in comparison to other teams? I could easily be wrong, but I would not be surprised if the Sabres top 4% is higher than the middle of the pack like your other analysis....but again I could be wrong.

Sam is simply not able to dictate the play on the ice. He needs somebody else to create the opportunities and then he seems to have a knack of being able to capitalize on those actions by others. I think he is not a fit for a 2C as a result. Yes, he is better when playing with Jack, but I thought he showed some productivity too when playing with ROR late last season. That is still my point, he needs to be on the same line with a playmaker to achieve success. For the right price, keep him, but he is not worth any more than what he is getting on his new deal. I would not mind seeing him being sent off as part of a package deal to get a legit 2C.

Not enough secondary scoring still. Really need a viable 2C. My second priority is for the coaching staff to get it's act together as far as special teams. Not much PP opportunity today (1-sided officiating again), but before today the PP was horrible and ineffective (still miss the Disco Dan days where we had a top 5 PP unit). Unfortunately it killed us again today. Just as bad is the PK. I feel the unit is coached to be too passive and therefore there is no pressure on the puck. I'd rather see the unit be aggressive and go down fighting vs. the timid approach I see now. Get a 2C and fix special teams and we can maybe keep up with the division leaders.

During McCabe's last game I went back on the DVR to look for something. Saw several non-eventful shifts as far as any physical contact. I think he skated one shift in the second period and again I looked for any contact...none. He went to the bench and straight to the locker room. I honestly thought he had the flu or bad food....just did not see anything obvious to suggest a long-term absence....still a mystery to me.

A second line center would be ideal.

I was in my car and had to listen to most of the 1st period. I hate to say it, but Dan Dunleavy is terrible from a play-by-play standpoint. I could not visualize the game with only his commentary. I never noticed this before because I had the benefit of television to see the action. I hope Rick sticks around a while.
