You're all over the place. All I was saying was that JBOT was not a very good judge of talent when it came to the NHL draft.
-
I think you're not understanding my earlier point. When you have the 1OA pick and there is a unanimous first overall "generational" athlete, then I am saying it is a no-brainer to pick that athlete. JBOT had this situation with Dahlin, and he would have shocked the hockey world if he traded it or picked somebody else. That's why I do not give him any credit for making a shrewd decision in selecting Dahlin....IMHO every GM in the league would have taken him first as well. Would you have not been surprised if Edmonton picked Eichel instead of McDavid?

Caps leading Panthers 2-1 with less than 5 minutes. Florida power play non-existent in this series. If the Caps prevail, they go up 3-1 in the series. Could this lead to an unexpectedly better draft pick? Update....Reinhart ties it up with their goalie pulled.

I think you own post with specific names answers the question loud and clear. Again, Dahlin does not count. Don't forget how we got Tage as well (the trade). With maybe the exception of Cozens (potentially), there are maybe some bottom 6 forward potential from his own draft picks. I do like Samuelsson as his other D pick while Bryson impact remains to be seen. Drafting Johnson and Laaksonen were simply bad picks IMHO. UPL? Who knows yet. My point again was bad drafting and coaching decisions, not everything else he did as a GM.

Jason Botterill's failures as a GM are still painful, even though he's been gone a while now. Whether it be bad coaches or bad drafting, I find very little good to offset the bad. BTW - picking Dahlin does not count, as that was a no-brainer.

Any chance Bloom makes the AHL or is he destined to play in the OHL all season?

Besides locking up Tage and Victor for reasonable contracts, something that hits me about this is Curtis Lazar. He's been noticeably active vs. Carolina with speed and energy and showing he has the game suited for playoff intensity. I'd love to get Jiricek if he's still there for us. I also like the idea of Connor Murphy in blue & gold. MAF could still be good for another 2 years IMHO as well.

Is Gambling Good For Professional Sports Or Bad?
Carmel Corn replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
I'd rather see good beer commercials come back rather than all the stupid betting ones. Maybe Phil Mickelson should do a commercial on what NOT to do. -
Culture change can be a fragile thing. Kyle needs to have a presence on this "work in process" for it to continue its upward trend. We hear it constantly in pro sports that it's a "business". Young leaders will emerge, but IMHO we still need Kyle for at least 2 more years.

Sam Bennett (with full playoff beard) scores....tied 1-1.

Sorry if there is already a thread on this. In the presser today, a reporter asked GMKA about the condition of Keybank arena. The question contended the arena has problems. For those of us who don't live local (anymore) or get to any games in person, what are the main complaints you have with Keybank? In the presser I heard broken chairs, but I'd appreciate hearing what anyone on this board feels is sub-standard in relation to the rest league venues. I am not referring to the cost of tickets or concessions, but rather anything physically wrong with the facility.

Don Granato and Kevyn Adams End of Season Press Conferences
Carmel Corn replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I don't doubt this either. That said, I am still wondering though is whether he feels having both UPL and Anderson is the "ideal" state going into next season....or does he make an attempt to add a 3rd name not already in the organization for a shorter-term deal. He still has to determine a plan for Rochester as well, whether it be re-signing UFA's Subban, Dell, Toker or Houser....and then whether any of those 4 names are good enough to move up to the big club in case of injury. -
Agree with the general notion of weaponizing our cap space for the next two years. What is surprising to me is that I did not realize how much Montreal is spending. I know it's only been a year since their cup run, but I've been distracted by other team's caps like Vegas. Montreal has some big salaries that are tied up for several more years, including Price, Petry, etc. (in addition to Weber).

I agree it is certainly not his main job for sure, maybe not even a little bit. Maybe if he responded using literally using the last part of your statement above, that would have been a better and more concise answer (vs. the longer diatribe he went into)....then he say "next question" and move on. -

Some good tidbits from GMKA today. I felt he provided some nice insights with respect to the players and the future direction. There was maybe only one question where I felt he failed to address the point....that being the condition and complaints about KeyBank center. I think he gave a bit of a word salad instead of acknowledging there are deficiencies to address. -
Lightning are flat as a pancake. Can't bear the thought of the Leafs having success.
-
IDK anything about his going pro intentions. IMHO he could be a mirror-image of Joki's game, except that Johnson is a left-hander. I would still be open to the idea of trading him for another RHD prospect.

RJ going out quietly into the night....a class act who we'll never forget and that can never be replaced.

Love how both teams smiled at Subban's national anthem!
-
I hope this is not his final, final game call. My gut tells me he will not return to call a game after tonight. Hopefully he will still be active in the organization in a non-broadcast role.

Michael Houser Called Up; Fitzgerald and Dell Assigned to Rochester
Carmel Corn replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
IDK - but I actually feel that Houser played pretty well for the Sabres in the limited action he had with the big club this season. -

Tuch just seems to have a knack for finding the puck.

I think he was referring to JOHNSON in his post.
