Either Donny and coaching staff aren't teaching fundamentals or the team isn't listening....or both. -

Toronto opportunity started with yet another piss poor PP by Buffalo. Absolutely no effort to put a man in front of the Toronto netminder. If there's another PP opportunity, just decline it! -

Our D-men yet again fail to neutralize the man directly in front of the goal.....frustrating! -
What is this team is missing to compete consistently?

They need to draft players who play with an edge vs. being timid on the ice. It gets frustrating how many times they get rid of the puck and turn away to avoid getting hit. They don't go to the hard areas of the zone. They need to draft young players who WANT to play a physical game. -
Physical play including fighting are missing from the game...

I don't think it's asking too much for a team that will finish checks, hit opposing D-men in the offensive zone (ex. causing them to look over their shoulder before going to the boards to retrieve a puck) and moving an opposing forward out of the way of your goalie to avoid a screen. The Sabres do none of this, which is part of the reason why other teams do not fear playing them. I don't need fighting, just a team that makes other teams respect their physical play (which is largely non-existent). -
IMHO - they keep drafting the same kind of players....based on pure talent, not necessarily heart or tenacity...or being "rugged" players who help bring some grit and snarl on the ice. We draft or trade for too many prima dona's and not enough who play with an edge. Our coaching history can't turn passive players into aggressive one, so they fail too.
