  1. What an absolute beauty.
  2. In with the new. Out with the old.
  3. Aaaannnnd *scene*.
  4. I’m unfamiliar with how the Wilson Foundation has structured its giving. But I don’t think it was structured quite like this: Gifts of 5, 10, 20 million given to dozens of nonprofits - no strings, no conditions, no restrictions.
  5. I can’t think of an act of philanthropy quite like it. $360MM. Given away. 82 recipients. Unrestricted.
  6. I was in the cheap seats - I sorta didn't catch that line cleanly. But I put it together by inference. I give the man credit. All other billionaires should do what he did. Few do.
  7. I love the system and logic associated with hockey nicknames. I just don't generally** use them when referring to players on my favourite team. **One exception that comes immediately to mind: Gates Orlando. "Gates" derives from "Gaetano." But everybody called him Gates.
  8. I attended the event this morning where Golisano announced his gifts of $360MM to nonprofits in Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo. What an absolute trip, since nobody who had been invited was aware of what was going to be announced. The money will mean the world to the agency that I was there helping to represent. Also, and I found this amusing, I was just starting to get over the sort of "out of body experience" sensation that overcame me -- once it became clear what the purpose of the event was -- when Golisano called out words of thanks to his wife Monica and asked her to stand up and be recognized. I had totally forgotten about the connection. So -- already a bit dumbstruck -- I directed my attention to the woman who was now standing up and waving to the crowd, and I was like: "Da fuq is Monica Seles doing here?!" 9. Good post. And I hear all of that. Colour me more confused and amused by that segment of the fandom. I've got a nephew who's straight as an arrow, married, expecting a first child. And dude regularly and unironically texts me links to Instagram posts that are essentially thirst traps for various Sabres (Krebs is a favourite (and, for sure, my guy refers to him as Krebsie (both in texts and in conversation))) -- and my nephew often includes accompanying messages like "check out these studs" or emojis such as 🤩.
  10. I may need a reality check. This has become a pet peeve of mine among Sabres faithful -- using a player's decidedly hockey nickname when referring to the player. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. Definitely getting old, anyway. I mean: AITA?
  11. Welp - TIL. TRIPLE CONCEPT ALERT.
  12. please someone meme this
  13. I've said it a bunch here: Quinn's my favourite player on the roster right now. I just love watching him compete and operate. He's gonna be SUCH a good effing hockey player for years to come. I do hope it's with the Sabres.** Quinn's game is going to be tailor made for the playoffs too. ** But, you never know, there could be some cost-controlled elite slightly underperforming prospect out there who might catch Terry's/Kevyn's eye.
  14. My theory: That kid 2 doors down took up the trumpet this school year. And what with the weather being so nice -- it makes it difficult to fit in that afternoon nap.
  15. Hear, hear. Another encouraging development. It appears that he's kept on a pitch count of sorts, which should allow him to be fresh for key situations.
  16. Ramsey getting burned by Ty "Dolla Sign" Johnson was absolutely delicious. I didn't notice who had been in coverage until I watched highlights today. Otoh, that wasn't so much the D giving up a shot over top as it was one of Allen's famous extended holy crap how did we make that throw plays.
  17. Passing was down precipitously in Week 1 acrost the league. There may be a legit trend going on. Defences are shelling up or whatever the hell they call it and offences are scheming to take what's being given (which is more running and more underneath stuff). I think about the fact that the Bills drafted Torrance -- a run blocking mauler, not so much a pass pro expert. Also, I cannot stress enough how Joe Brady's play design on that first tuddy made me so, so happy. Was it stolen directly from Andy Reid? Sure. But it was executed perfectly.
  18. tough crowds, man. the first james cook touchdown was a cause for joyous celebration. that was some andy reid sh1t right there. i wanted to kiss joe brady! then on another first half TD drive, allen made two throws that were objectively bonkers -- the bullet into shakir's abdomen amidst 3 closing defenders and that long throw to ty johnson (who cooked jalen ramsey!). lots to love from the bills.
  19. I'm not sure what you mean by "gaps." Benford played excellent defence and caused the first interception through tight coverage. The second interception was apparently a mistake on the part of the WR -- he reportedly did not run the route to the correct depth (maybe that's what you mean by gap). The third interception was a product of good team defence (nobody was open), pressure from a d-lineman, and Tua having a noodle arm. I think McDermott played some cat and mouse with McDaniel. The Bills would surrender a couple chunk run plays, but then tighten up and shut things down. The Dolphins were definitely a.ss in several respects -- O-Line, coaching principally come to mind. But the Bills D gets full credit for stomping out an inferior opponent.
  20. No harm, no foul -- but had Allen hurt himself on this play -- there would have been hell to pay.
  21. I am very concerned over Bernard’s injury. That’s a potential season ender. Could be time for the Legend of Buffalo Joe to continue?
  22. That was a master class from McDermott. McDaniel looked like a vape shop owner who couldn’t figure out Quickbooks.
  23. I thought maybe he was talking about Terry. Looked like he was wearing his eye protection from racquet ball or squash.
  24. haha - wait - how??
