I'm not saying BUF won't improve. They will improve, they'll be better, but you're talking about an improvement for team that is statistically an order of magnitude worse than the next worse team in the league. They'll be better, but that doesn't mean they're not still a bottom 2 team. Let me put it this way, which team(s) are you saying will be worse than BUF? ARI with McEichel? TOR with a new coach minus Kessel? CAR? CBJ? Even with all the additions you mentioned, the Sabres will still have the least talented team in the league.

All Nolan said was "we'll see how he (Hackett) feels and then make that decision". So it's still up in the air. Sounds like they're setting the stage for something tank-a-rific. ie, if he can't go last minute, and Lindback pulls up lame in warmups... THE VINZ ?

I would love that! If they have 30th wrapped up, they should hand out McEichel 2015 t-shirts to all in attendance. True story. I ran into Darcy in Phoenix a few weeks ago at my kids tournament. we were watching the Coyotes practice at the Ice Den in Scottsdale before my son's game. The smug look he had made me want to punch him the face. I said "hey Darcy! you tanking for McEichel?" he just gave me this wry smile and a wink before turning and walking away.

This team is going nowhere next season. Think of how bad Buffalo has been since the deadline... 2-7-1... and one of those 2 wins they were severely outplayed (BOS). Without McEichel this team is easily a bottom 2 team next season. Talent wise, BUF is still far and away bottom of the barrel even with Kane in the lineup. It'll be a at least one more season before BUF starts their climb out of the basement. Will they tank next year? No. How can they get any worse? They can't. This is the bottom of the rebuild, and they'll improve, but even with some improvement they're still a bottom 2 team. Consider their CorsiFor % is 6.5 percentage points worse than the next worse team (37% vs 43.5%). That next worse team is 11 percentage points worse than the top team in the league. Bear with me here... so even if Buffalo improves their CF% by 50% of the 17 percentage point difference between them and the top team, that number improves to 37+8.5=45.5%, which would give them the 3rd worst CF% in the entire league. And with a huge question mark in net (no Enroth or Neuvirth to ride) they should be a bottom 2 team again.

If BUF ends up drafting #2 they're taking Eichel, no question. If they draft #3, they may trade back a spot and take Strome. If they do end up with Strome, they'll be in the mix (IMHO) for #1 next season (Matthews). I know it sounds ridiculous to start looking at the 2016 draft, but the reality is if they don't get McEichel (and ARI does), they'll be right back in the mix for the top pick next season as well. Auston Matthews is bigger than Eichel and is putting up slightly better numbers than he did in the USNTDP as a 17 year old. He's the real deal. He's an Arizona kid, so I can imagine ARI doing everything they can to nab him next season. Imagine the fanfare if an ARI kid turns into a superstar in the desert. So that means if ARI ends up picking #2 OA and BUF #3 OA this year, there's a very real chance for BUF to trade up into ARI's spot (Eichel) if they put together a package that includes next years #1 pick. ARI will be bad next year with or without McEichel, so if they can grab Hanifin and BUF's number #1 next season to improve their chances at Matthews, then the deal makes sense and is a win/win for both teams.

I suffered a mild stroke when Moulson scored to put them down one...but the Shart is strong in this team. Had a home depot bucket by the couch in the closing minutes. This game on Thursday should be a good old fashioned CHL barn burner. Huge that ARI cannot claim 30th with a regulation win. Even huger if ARI can somehow pickup a point tomorrow in DET. Cmon hockey Gods, you owe us!

Damn another loss. Thought the Sabres had this one in the bag. Should be a W on home ice Thursday against the Coyotes.
-
You're talking about hockey right? This is the GDT?
-
PP goal! Noice
-
I like Razor too, he has some interesting analogies. he said something about the Stars needing to "mow around the stump" tonight meaning the Sabres like to collapse in their own zone or something..
-
Swimming in a sea of suck.
-
Damn, Linbergh has to make that save there. Decent road period tho.
-
Nice play by Grigorenko! Go Sabres!
-
The Dallas guy just called Lindback Hedberg and then Lindbergh before correcting himself.
-
This is the GDT... Right??
-
Just turned on the Dallas feed and hear ... "...the Stars are playing their best hockey of the season...." Here we go!

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I've been watching the Coyotes for the past 3 months, just about every single game. There is no explanation for the bonehead decisions they're making over the past month when presented with absolutely glorious scoring chances. Passes directly to the other team, but most notably shooting wide on 9 out of 10 point blank opportunities. Even guys like Erat and Gagner are blowing prime scoring chances.

Maybe it's just a Buffalo media thing? Outside of WNY (I'm in California), the perception is that Buffalo just sucks and has sucked for several seasons. The Tank talk comes up most often when discussing ARI's freefall since the trade deadline, and Toronto. People understand what Buffalo is doing, they've jettisoned the previous core and are attempting to build a new one... that's not Tanking, that's rebuilding wisely.

Rebuilding is a multi year proccess of tearing your team down tactfully, getting good return for your expiring assets and drafting wisely. Tanking is intentionally throwing games over a short period of time in a desperate attempt to improve your draft position. If anybody is tanking it's the Coyotes.

This. Tanking would be calling up and starting an ECHL goalue and sitting Ennis and Risto down the stretch. The Sabres are just bad, they aren't intentionally throwing games by scratching healthy players.

This is getting tight. Let's say BUF gets a CHL loss tomorrow. That puts it at 1 point heading into the first ARI game. I could see BUF losing the lead here this week, but will come down to the final week, could go either way, but I trust GMTM has something up his sleeve.

Lawler's Law here soon for Buffalo. Really thought ARI was gonna squander some points on home ice. Tough when your own goalie is putting the puck in his net. EDM dropping, and with 3 more games left on their homestand they could be out of contention by next weekend. These BUF/ARI games are shaping up to be gimungous. I see both games going to OT with zeros on the board.
