  1. Imagine the outrage if Pegula had extended a sub .500 coaching staff that was unable to break the playoff drought after the criticism he took for keeping Lindy and Darcy. Marrone and agent negotiated the clause in his contract, it was a smart move he and was well within his rights to exercise it. I don't fault him for that at all, but he clearly miscalculated the outcome and in the high profile professional sports world you're going to endure some criticism when things don't go as planned. Especially from low paid journalists in a largely irrelevant market.
  2. And from our old buddy Luke DeCock no less.
  3. I agree and I've tried to adhere to that although I may have slipped a few times recently with the giddiness that comes with such stellar CHL play. There's no need to troll our fellow Sabres fans just because we disagree on the best way forward. To the Carrion thread. Go Sabres!
  4. Half assed. The Sabres clearly were shooting for MacKinnon that year but didn't do enough roster manipulation to achieve the goal. Darcy, not surprisingly, just stuck his toes into the tanking waters that year and we were rewarded with yet another heroic run to 10th place. If GMTM was in charge then I'm sure he would have dove in head first and blown it all right to hell.
  5. As we've now seen, tanking is a season long effort requiring full CHL commitment from the get go for any hope of success. They did try with the deadline moves in the lockout year, but like I said it was half assed.
  6. Lockout year was a too little, too late half assed tanking effort. Doesn't count in my book.
  7. Keep believing and all things are possible. #shart
  8. Pulled off the kids + nieces and nephews booth while adults drink adjacently at end of the bar. Big thumbs up for 716!
  9. Just visited the new Flying Bison brewery in the Larkin district. If 716 is too crowded, I recommend you hit the FB tasting room instead.
  10. I went with #2 at the Sabres Canes game last week and intend to do the same tonight. But I do still wear Sabres gear to the game.
  11. I plan on checking this out on Friday during what is becoming my annual post holidays WNY visit. I'll be at the game tomorrow, but will probably avoid it then.
  12. Cool to see that Rex went to the Big Tree, that's right in the middle of my old southtowns stomping grounds. I've been in there plenty of times during non gameday hours and often would see Bills both current and retired at the bar. Great place and great wings. Andre Reed of course famously mentioned the Big Tree in his HOF speech, and after the home opener this year there he was standing in the lot of the Big Tree after the game partying with fans.
  13. Exxxxccceellllent...EXXXXCCEEELLLLENT!!! And for you non CHL fans, only 38 games (or less) left for the tank.
  14. FWIW, I had NHL network on last night and they devoted about 20 minutes or so to Hasek showing clips from the banner raising, highlights from his career, and the LaFontaine narrated piece for his HOF enshrinement. Kevin Weeks called him the Michael Jordan of hockey, and I also learned that Gretzky once said that #39 had the best hockey IQ of all time. I haven't seen the Sabres ceremony, but I thought NHL network did a nice job.
  15. And as we all know trade price can be heavily influenced by a wide variety of variables unrelated to the actual value of the player. See Paul Gaustad for a 1st. So if you hold onto him and the right team gets antsy you can very well get filet price for Tyler Myers.
  16. The Sabres, right now, don't have a #1 anything on the whole damn team. No legit top line forward, D or goalie. This is what happens when you are rebuilding/tanking. Like others have said Myers is a legit #3 D in this league, both on this tire fire of a team and for a contender. He won't be moved unless a team overpays for him, and I'm fine with that.
