  1. We may very well still be CHL contenders next year, just not on purpose.
  2. As 'ole Roby used to like to say..we're all clenched up tighter than a mouse's ear.
  3. http://theleafsnation.com/2015/4/1/mckenzie-leafs-will-take-the-best-player-available-at-the-2015-nhl-entry-draft McKenzie agrees with TrueBlue in that without McEichel, Strome, Marner, hanifin still would make this a very strong draft class.
  4. http://thehockeywriters.com/magical-mitch-marner-mcdavid-malkin/ A lot of elite talk in there.
  5. And there is a gradient of preference among the remaining 24 teams, and Buffalo is decidedly at the bottom of the barrel. I was told in no uncertain terms by my former source close to DR that a large part of the decision that led to the suffer/ tank plan is indeed the huge recruitment problem that the Sabres face. Despite TP's open wallet top guys do not want to play in Buffalo if given a choice. I suspect that problem might improve some if/when we start icing a competitive team, but I don't think we'll ever be playing on a level field with some of the big boys.
  6. Of course, anyone who isn't on board for DFL at this point is either lying or insane. But as we should have all realized from the very start, other organization(s) covet the shart just as much as we do and nobody should have ever expected for this to be easy.
  7. Agree wholeheartedly with this Coller chap. Let's assume the Sabres get three or more points in their final five and the Coyotes lose out and we endure the agony of watching the shart slip from our grasp. Under that scenario, if my calculations are correct, that would mean the coyotes would have a record of 6-25-2 since Feb. 1. That's a 35 point full season pace. At that point you don't get pissed at your collection of AHL scrubs, you tip your hat to the Coyotes and their AHL scrubs for out tanking us.
  8. I still think it does justify it, I just don't see other avenues that offered the same likelihood of success at getting elite talent that the number 2 and (at worst) number 3 overall picks in consecutive drafts give us. This had to be done.
  9. Indeed I am, and another snippet from the article..
  10. Here's an analysis from before last years draft of why tanking is a good plan in my view. It also provides some further insight into Samson, one of our tank prizes already in the stable. http://canucksarmy.com/2014/6/10/who-should-vancouver-draft-spoilers-it-s-sam-reinhart
  11. I agree that many fans and media made it that way, but I don't for a minute believe that GMTM was ever of a McEichel or bust mindset.
  12. Again, only if you believe that the only path to success is via the grand slam, and that the three run double offers no benefit at all.
  13. I won't ever get pissed about the players finding extra motivation from anything they might perceive as an injustice or slap in the face. These guys are professional athletes and it's their job to play to win. Period. The only fault I find with them is making their desire public, and because of that this situation has the potential to get much uglier. They all should have followed the lead of their captain after the Arizona game and just taken the high road, offered no comment and kept everything in the locker room.
  14. This little nugget seems to be lost on nearly everyone.
  15. There you have it. How dare other teams also recognize the prize for 30th and try to take our shart from us! Thank you and the Shart will still be ours.
  16. Picking top 3 two years in a row is tanking successfully no matter how you try and spin it.
  17. Basically what Vodka just said. If they blow it, they still have a 33% shot at McEichel. If they pick 3rd it won't be the end of the world to merely pick the best of the elite talent in the draft, although it will disappointing to have missed out on the generational kids.
  18. I don't think they'll blow it, but if they do it wasn't a waste in any way, shape or form.
  19. They beat the only two teams in the league that are currently playing marginally worse than they are. That's hardly proof that they're now world beaters because they're pissed about some fans cheering for the opposition.
  20. You know the guy you want next to you in the foxhole who you can trust not to go into the fetal position when the bullets get thick and grenades are blowing up all around you
  21. I haven't learned a whole lot of lessons from two years of CHL hockey, but one thing that has become crystal clear is who are our SS foxhole guys.
  22. All morning i listened to my kids "Dad, there's a spider on your head" "Dad, sorry I dropped your phone in the toilet." and yet still Liger got me.
  23. Talk is cheap. At the end of the day the Sabres still blow chunks, over the last 10 games only two teams in the entire league are worse than the the Sabres: Toronto and Arizona. If they end up blowing the shart it won't be because of any suddenly found pride or drive to stick it to the fans who want them to lose, it will be because of that huge December aberration without which we'd already be drinking from the shart.
