  1. Some love it, some hate it. A few years ago Keegan Bradley, a huge Stern fan, was in Tigers group. As they were waiting on the first tee Tiger leaned in and said to Keegan..."so I guess we're getting a lot of Baba Booeys today, huh?" My brother in law has spent a few years on the tour and he hates it. I keep telling him that when he gets his card back I'm going to his first tournament to give him the big baba booey welcome.
  2. There's also the Baba Booeys with watching golf on TV.
  3. Thanks folks for the kind words. Here is a SS appropriate pic of the old buddy. We put this chair out on our porch when entertaining one weekend and of course he commandeered it, forcing us to keep it there for several weeks as his perch to bird watch and sleep.
  4. Our cat was diagnosed with terminal kidney disease in November, since that time we had been administering daily SQ doses of fluids to keep him going and being himself. Last Saturday he began showing symptoms again and by Sunday it was clear that it was time to say goodbye. My wife was a wreck all weekend staying up most of the night holding him and sobbing. I had never owned a pet before, he was my wife's cat and I married into pet ownership, so although I felt sad about the prospect I was more analytical about the situation and acted as the shoulder for her to cry on. As we drove to the vet Monday morning my wife holding him in her lap still I was offering words of comfort and support, and when we arrived at the vet and I spoke with the office staff as my wife waited unable to speak....all business. When they opened the door to the exam room and we walked in it was like I was hit with a ton of bricks, suddenly I was a sobbing mess right alongside my wife. The process was more difficult than I could have ever imagined, but he went peacefully. We drove home with his remains and I began digging a hole in the backyard...and thinking. He was truly a part of our family..he made the move from Buffalo to NC with us 14 years ago, he was there when we got married, when we brought home our newborn children from the hospital, and he was literally right by my side every day for the better part of two years as I recovered from multiple surgeries from an auto accident. Those life experiences and many more are what hit me like a ton of bricks and bowled the analytical side of me right over when it came time to really say goodbye. For 16 years he was a part of our family. The house sure does feel empty this week. A friend of ours sent this article to us this week, and it pretty much hits the nail on the head for me. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/03/130303-cat-dog-pet-euthanasia-put-to-sleep/
  5. Yeah WNY in general has been a little late to the craft beer boom, but they have made up substantial ground in the past few years. Of course using the Atlanta, Charlotte, Asheville, Raleigh scene isn't really a fair measuring stick as these areas have been way ahead of the curve for some time.
  6. Check out Moor Pat in Williamsville in lieu of Blue Monk. It's another Shatzel bar, and although very small and not nearly as extensive of a tap list you will find some really good craft beer to try.
  7. OMB brews only German style beers. I believe the copper is an alt. I was at a beer festival last fall and parked myself at their tent. They had a huge sign that said: No we don't have any pumpkin beer. No we don't have any IPA. Thus the traffic was very light at their tent and I got to hang out and chat with the brewer as he began giving me full pours of some great examples of Helles, Pils, Alt and schwarzbier styles.
  8. Wow. Took cuse in the money line baby!
  9. Great memories. Gurtler was/is such a grade A tool. I had my own "private" unauthorized tour of a darkened Aud circa the late 90s where we visited many of those places in the video. The locker room was littered with players' medical and fitness files, and one of the guys from our crew might have left with the Sabres logo adorned awning that the visiting team entered/exited the ice under.
  10. So it looks like Weber is coming out with a new high end charcoal grill. This teaser pic suggests it will provide the best of their standard kettle, performer with gas assisted light and smoker. The consensus in the bbq forums is guessing that it will be a double steel walled kamado style unit to compete in the ceramic cooker (big green egg) market. We'll see April 6th.
  11. A young, inexperienced but talented team showing marked improvement over the course of a long season? Well I'll be damned. #notatank
  12. Yep, I've only been down there once myself to visit Flying Bison.
  13. I think that can be turned around to say that the mass blaming of an entire religion can only be laid at the feet of a few groups on the fringes. I think the vast majority of people realize the phrase Islamic extremism by itself implies it's only a small subset of Muslims that are responsible for the huge problem the world at large faces.
  14. My wife went to a place in the Larkin district a few months back that she raved about, I'm sure someone here can help with the name. I always liked Gabriel's Gate for brunch back in the day. Edit: heard back from the wife, Hydraulic Hearth is the brunch place in Larkin district.
  15. Would you agree that the scope of murderous violence and pervasiveness of fanatical influence with Islamic extremism dwarfs the same from other religious flavors?
  16. Random.org random number generator first three results: 98, 72, 1
  17. Ha, that's great! I wish I had got in on that one. There was a healthy dose of Sabres fans in my section, and things got a little testy after the Skinner scrum, but overall things were tame....and then the quieted Caniacs streamed for the exits after two late Sabre tallies. Fun.
  18. Nice. After all these years, it's still fun taking over their building, even in a game between two irrelevant teams. Somewhere tonight Luke DeCock is seething, and for that I am thankful.
  19. And then they penetrated their women and dined on the flesh of their young...
