  1. Yes, but few have done it in such a no holds barred way as the Buffalo Sabres did from 2013 to 2015. Nothing was left to chance.
  2. Maybe, but not many have the ZFG attitude to unapologetically tank for two full seasons. Although I don't believe GMTM or anyone else had much of a choice to continue what DR started, he still did a masterful job of steering the tank to success. Things appear to be on course right now, but I agree with others that nothing has been accomplished until we get to the playoffs and continue to progress to legit Cup contender
  3. I know it doesn't make sense, but when you work for a large corporation and their existing plans are considered "Cadillac" plans under the ACA, you end up with one plan option that covers less and costs more.
  4. Yeah, but as outlined after my post YMMV depending on circumstances and location. My benefits were slashed substantially and my costs skyrocketed way beyond the rate they had been increasing on a yearly basis. It was the same story for nearly everyone I talked to in my area who were covered via an employer sponsored plan. I think everyone agrees that something needed to be done, but the ACA was ramrodded through and it is just a plain piece of legislation.
  5. That and she's held heavy political influence since the early 90's FFS. It's 2016. Enough of entrenched politicians, especially ones carrying an excess of heavy baggage like HRC. Weary is the word.
  6. In the pure sense I also have no problem paying more to help all people have access to healthcare. The problem for me stems from trusting in a bloated government bureaucracy to do that. When I hear about more $ going to government the first terms that come to mind are waste, fraud and inefficiency.
  7. Well sure, if you're attempting to conduct a scientific poll it's a danger. But if you're looking for campaign slogans like the one my question was based on, then anecdotal is exactly what you're looking for. My rates went up at a much higher rate than they had been previously and my options became more limited as well. From what I've read I suspect that this is the case for many covered under employer based plans. Still my criticism of the term affordable doesn't really apply to my situation, as even with the increase I can still afford to pay for my family. However, for many of those who the law was designed to help most, affordable does not seem to apply. http://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2015/nov/how-high-health-care-burden
  8. I don't doubt for some your healthcare costs have gone down. For me, and what I strongly suspect is the the case for the majority of Americans, the opposite would be true.
  9. To the first, that's the kind of thinking, from both sides, that has brought us to where we are today. More of the same. yay. To the second I'll borrow and paraphrase a former President.. Is your healthcare more affordable now than it was 4 years ago? 8 years ago?
  10. That seems to be the popular view. I'd argue votes for a sandwich or giant turd to be a bigger waste. But carry on... That government shouldn't be involved.
  11. Gary Johnson. This thread needs more Gary.
  12. Howard was talking about it this morning..reminiscing on it's history and how far it has come. 26 years ago his producer Gary called his favorite animation cell a "Baba Booey" instead of Baba Looey. He got goofed on immediately and then said "in a week you guys will forget all about it" 26 years later his verbal gaffe is ubiquitous at PGA golf tournaments, is often heard on late night TV and news broadcasts and now the DNC, probably the highest profile mention ever, eclipsing the ABC News Peter Jennings prank call during the OJ chase.
  13. Highlight of the DNC...Sarah Silverman with the Baba Booey!
  14. I'd love to fire up the Egg or Weber tonight, but with a 106 heat index I'm choosing to stay inside over tending to a hot fire. Yes NC summers suck just as bad as Buffalo winters.
  15. I wasn't eligible to vote in 84, but yes it's worse still for people slightly older than me.
  16. In my voting lifetime and anyone else around my age: Bush. Clinton. Bush. Obama. Clinton? If Hillary wins that's 24 out of 32, and potentially 28 out of 36 years that I've been eligible to vote with two families in the white house. #nofrigginthankyou.
  17. Renting a few cottages for the week with family.
  18. Demonizing either side gets us absolutely nowhere, and here we are yet again with passions stoked by the RNC. I wonder if it will be reversed next week during and after the DNC? I'll take "guaranteed" for $1000 Alex. I personally don't like Trump (or Hillary) and will not vote for either, but food for thought,,, http://www.civilpolitics.org/content/how-to-make-real-progress-against-trumps-incivility/
  19. Yes weave I'm back in Chautauqua 8/6-8/13, if you can swing through the area let me know and I can bring some Wicked Weeds and meet you at Southern Tier. The final song from Victoria last night...damn allergies...
  20. Well the tour kicks off tonight in BC, with dudacek in attendance. I've been on a hip kick since the announcement and have re-discovered so many lost gems from the back catalog...Family band, coffee girl, world container, darkest one, chagrin falls, dire wolf, it can't be nashville every night, Toronto #4, morning moon, the depression suite, Escape is at hand for the travellin' man.....and on and on. So many great songs beyond the "hits". http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/tragically-hip-farewell-tour-victoria-bc-1.3684118 I'm still going to try to make a Toronto show when I'm at Chautauqua Lake next month if at all possible. I've been listening to Brad Riter's Hip Story podcasts as well, with some great stories from guests like Sully, Vogl, Amy Moritz among others. Great stuff. http://www.trendingbuffalo.com/category/commentary/podcast/hip-story-pod/ The new album is stellar too..

  22. If they didn't ask and/or if the medical staff didn't communicate injury concerns about a 1st round pick? Fire `em all! However I find that lack of communication hard to believe, even for the Bills.
