No I haven't. Although I will if you can tell me how reading it might bring insight towards how we bridge the enormous partisan canyon that exists in this country. Recommending it as a way of categorizing and demonizing those you disagree with won't get me there however, because that would be.........validating Haidt and all that.

I forgot who else had read it here, thanks for reminding me. I'm not above the fray at all, I just know that most people in this thread are smart, thoughtful folks who would absolutely find value in reading it. Really the main motivation in Haidt writing the book was to help bridge the left right divide, he has zero skin in the game on either side. The fact that we have people here (and in the comments in the article I linked) tearing him down says so much about where we are as a nation.

From the very first time I quoted Haidt in here I said I was just the same as every else. We all are, it's human nature. I'm not above the fray, yet I'm now able to call out hypocrisy on both sides and understand that both sides have reasonable valid arguments. You are very interested in knocking him down, so much so that it would seem you would have read him by now. Understanding exactly where he's coming from might give you greater arsenal to knock him down, would it not? As far as the "team think" comment, if you don't think this thread is by and large a left of center echo chamber......well then you really need to read Haidt. No guess at all. Your perception is tribal, as it is with everyone else......

I used to get involved in the back and forth sniping on other forums, then someone introduced me to Haidt and I eventually read the book with an open mind and I found that I was constantly saying to myself.."yeah, I've done that". After enough of those self discoveries you start thinking he might be onto something. Then you dig deeper......and realize it's not as simple as the other side simply being wrong. Did you read the article I linked to today? Or anything that I've ever linked to regarding Haidt? You clearly have not. Again your responses are absolutely validating his theories. From the article I linked to earlier today....all of this is backed up by Haidt's research and I submit that the following is what goes on in this thread. Every. Single. Day. Both. Sides. That's where "carry on" comes from. The above gets us nowhere.
