  1. I don't miss it. Injecting the hybridomas into mice and harvesting the ascites fluid was the worst part. I do not miss the animal work at all.
  2. There is a name for teams who have to break out those cliches more often than not: Not very good.
  3. Well we know Darcy ain't going nowhere, but everyone has their breaking point. Where is Terry's?
  4. Nice. In a previous life I used to affinity purify gobs of anti-RSV mAb's.
  5. I meant the ending, when the Sabres play the elite teams it won't come down to the last 1.5 seconds.
  6. We've got biodork and myself as lab nerds, and a few MD's around here I think. Lindy could throw Stafford out there for Pominville for the HSV-1 line, or Scott for the HSV-2 line. In years past they had the Roy, Stafford Vanek (RSV) line.
  7. I have probably posted these pics of my cave before, but I wanted to add a few comments about caves in general. When I decided to build a cave, I was torn between converting my third floor walk up attic space or building a separate structure in my backyard. I'm very happy that I chose the separate structure route. I have a few friends with caves in basements, bonus rooms and attics, but ultimately these places do not serve as the serene sanctuaries that they hoped they would be. When I'm within earshot of my wife, she is often going to find something to chirp at me about that I have no interest in listening to when the game is on. From what I understand this is fairly standard wife behavior. The separate man cave structure solves this problem for me most of the time, if the weather is bad or it's cold outside there is no way that she is coming out there to bother me. The outdoor TV is a 42" vizio lcd. The inside TV is a 50" Panasonic plasma with SVS 5.1 surround sound speakers through an Onkyo home theater receiver. The outdoor speakers are from Axiom, if you are in the market for outdoor speakers I highly recommend looking at the Axioms. edit: The other reason why this is more man cave like and not all that wife friendly is that mother nature provides the rest room facilities.
  8. So were the Canes until the Sabres showed up and cured all their problems.
  9. Tripp Tracy. He really is brutal. I realize that pretty much all teams announcers are homers to a degree, but Tracy and Forslund are among the worst.
  10. Sister Christian with Boogie Nights
  11. Not too many folks posting in this thread are actually in NC as far as I know. I'm in Wake county and I'm assuming that bills_fan_in_raleigh is as well. I think I remember eball saying he is in Chapel Hill so that would be Orange county, and I've heard that the schools are better there. I don't believe that Drunkard is from the Triangle, I think he is out towards the coast.
  12. My brother had a ticket for me and I was going to fly up to do the home and home, but I'm kind of glad that I bailed on that now.
  13. I got out of my section for the third period and walked down to the end where the Sabres were shooting to watch. I had a perfect vantage point to watch that play develop. It was a thing of beauty in an otherwise puke of a game.
  14. Everyone has covered the breakdowns and overall lethargy of the team in great detail. It was a garbage effort from top to bottom, plenty of blame to go around. Listless, indifferent and apathetic play. However, above all that, what sticks in my craw the most is the gutless Tyler Myers. Nathan Gerbe in his first game back after a long rehab from back surgery, a surgery that was ultimately required because he was boarded from behind, gets boarded again in the very same fashion and that's the response from Myers??!!! All the talk about the improved team toughness and grit went out the window and we're right back to square one where we were the day after Lucic/Miller as far as I'm concerned. That made me want to puke. That lack of response has me VERY concerned about the future of Tyler Myers. Inexcusable. Regarding the two quick goals. I walked into the men's room with the game tied at two and before I was finished emptying my bladder it was 4-2. Man that goal horn and Ric Flair woo-woo woo thing is so bush league.
  15. There were a lot of Sabres fans, but not as many as usual IMO and overall not as vocal as in the past. The team not giving us anything to be vocal about certainly didn't help though. I knew we were in for a sub par pillaging effort when I went to the pre-game buffet in the arena club. I've had dinner there before a few times before Sabres games and the place is usually at least 1/4-1/3 Sabres fans. Last night it was just me and one other guy in the whole place. Then we get to our seats and I honestly think that I was the lone Sabres fan in section 122. I caught a lot of heat sitting there. I saw security down there towards the end of the game asking a Sabres fan to leave. I didn't think it was you though?
  16. Sabre fan presence at game tonight was weak. Matched the effort on the ice.
