  1. I didn't learn this until today, but Huey Lewis is my brother in laws amateur partner at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week.
  2. I remember that stand well. When I was in high school and college my friends and I would often get SRO tickets behind the oranges.
  3. One of my all time favorite Aud stories involves a pre-game incident in the oranges starring a drunk opposing fan. I did not witness it myself, but I've heard my friend tell it so many time it feels like I was there. My friend in high school used to go to a lot of games with his father who had a game day ritual where he would arrive at the game about an hour before puck drop, go to his seat and read the Buffalo News. So my friend is sitting there in the oranges next to his father with barely anyone else yet in their seats, and he begins hearing this guy keep yelling "Bruuuinnns!!!" "Bruuuuins". As the sound gets closer, he notices the guy standing at the very top of the oranges in the section right next to his, still yelling Bruins with slurred speech. As the guy begins to make his way to his seat in the last row of that section he trips and falls forward, spilling his beer, and he begins tumbling down across the rows. Anyone who was ever in the Aud knows how steep those oranges were and the prospect of falling was always in the back of your mind when going up and down the aisles. So here this drunk Bruins fan tumbling down the orange seats heading directly towards a family of four sitting about midway down the section. They turn around just in time to see the guy about to tumble into them, and instead of attempting to stop his fall they end up redirecting him away from running them over, allowing him to continue his descent towards the precipice. He eventually comes to a stop in the second row of the oranges, peels himself off the seats, looks around, raises both hands in the air and gives one last "Bruins!" as though he was proud of what he just accomplished. My friends father, a man of very few words casually glanced away from his newspaper for a moment, looked at the guy, muttered "######" and went right back to reading. Now that's the type of stuff you can't get in these new fangled hockey barns!
  4. This is true, but most of them would also have a big draft beer in one hand and a cigar/cigarette in the other.
  5. True, the place isn't that big which adds to it's charm. Maybe the winning team gets to go in the Bar Bill, losing team eats McDonald's on the bus? Here is a link for Bar-Bill first timers. Most important to note is that they do not accept credit cards. http://www.barbill.com/first-timers/
  6. As a fan I felt it was time to add a bit more jam to my game. Old school Roby seemed appropriate.
  7. Off the top of my head Stuuuuuuuuu Barnes is the only one that comes to mind.
  8. I'd say that most of those people aren't dropping any of their own money on tickets.
  9. Nice. I always liked his Yvon Lambert and Phil Housley calls too. The LaFontaine call might be his most famous, but these were some underdogs.
  10. At this point I think it's a case of what you see is what you get in terms of fan involvement at FNC. I don't think you're ever going to see much of a change in the atmosphere at the arena no matter how well the team is playing, it's been like a library in there for years. Win the Stanley Cup on home ice and then you'll see fan involvement the likes of which the NHL has never seen.
  11. They are excellent, the best in WNY by a mile IMO. Big, cooked to perfection and not overly sauced unless requested. The hand carved beef on weck is great as well. If you are anywhere in WNY, it's well worth the trip out to East Aurora to give them a try sometime.
  12. I agree with the eventually going on a tear part, but I disagree on the solid playoff position. The tear that they will eventually go on, like always, will put them in the 7th-10th place range. But like the others, I hope that you get to say I told ya so.
  13. Cool. Stop at the Bar-Bill tavern for some wings and beef on weck after the game.
  14. Yes indeed. He is a chronic complainer because that is what gets the most eyeballs to his columns. Provoking responses such as yours is his bread and butter.
  15. Hasn't there been a lot of OT stuff going on during hockey season on this board for years? Thursday / Friday / Awesome threads.
  16. It's the American way. Every approaching storm has to be the mega huge worst in our lifetimes super storm.
  17. With 8-9" of snow in a city like Athens, GA I can definitely understand it causing some major problems. They don't have the equipment and infrastructure to properly deal with a weather event like that. It's the panic driven nonsense that can be avoided. About 7 or 8 years ago here in Raleigh they were calling for some snow, maybe an inch or two. So naturally everyone panicked and headed for home at around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. And I mean nearly everyone, and all at roughly the same time. What ensued was a traffic nightmare for the ages. All because of what ultimately amounted to under an inch of snowfall and people panicking. You see with the traffic jams all around and a little bit of snow falling on untreated roadways, that snow turned to ice very quickly with idling cars sitting still. People sat in their cars four hours, overnight in some cases, a lot of children never made it home from school on the bus that night and ended up staying in shelters. People I work with who left in the initial panic and got about a mile down the road in three hours, ended up coming back and sleeping at their desks. They told me that I was crazy when I headed out the door for home at 4:30, but I took the back roads, drove at a prudent speed and wouldn't you know it I actually made it home in an hour and a half. So now, because of that event there is still plenty of pancic, but when snow is forecasted they just shut everything down before it even gets here. Idiots.
  18. I don't know enough about Ott's history to say, but I think Kaleta certainly deserves to be there. As the author noted, he has cleaned things up a bit in recent years, but he will be hard pressed to shake the reputation he earned with the many questionable to downright dirty hits from earlier in his career.
  19. The level of panic you see in NY can't come close to what happens here. I'm a little used to it now after being here for 10 years, but people truly go insane at just the hint of some bad winter weather heading our way. Nice! Speaking of alternate forms of jerky, my wife came home with some salmon jerky from trader joes the other day. It seemed like a nice gesture at first since I like salmon and I like regular jerky, but now I think that she may have been trying to poison me. Wretched, nasty, vomit inducing stuff.
  20. I have absolutely no doubt that the Sabres will "turn things around" and go on a winning streak that gets them in the vicinity of 8th place only to either fall just short of the playoffs or lose in round one, but that's a movie that I've grown tired of watching to be honest.
