  1. Well that was a waste of one my free TBN articles before I have to clear my cache again.
  2. Like Pliny, Two Hearted is a damn fine, very drinkable big IPA. I'm not sure about #2, but it would definitely be in my top 10. It's a centennial hop lovers wet dream.
  3. I think Pliny benefits a bit from it's mystique since it's just not that widely available. I've been lucky enough to travel out west and know folks who will bring some back for me so I've had it enough times to confidently say that I agree with the love that many have for this beer. With Pliny IMO it's "thinness" adds to it's appeal. It's just so damn drinkable for a double IPA and you'd never guess it was 7% abv. Personally I find 90 minute to be a bit overrated, largely due to it's lack of thinness. It's a big, boozy beer and it would benefit with some better attenuation IMO. I prefer 60 minute to 90 minute. The IPA's dominate for one simple reason. This is a list voted on by homebrewer's and IPA is far and away the most popular style among homebrewers. It's always the style category with the most entries at competitions. I too raised an eyebrow at Ruthless Rye being rated so high, it's a good beer but nothing outstanding.
  4. Asheville is a great town with an awesome craft beer scene that is only getting better. You'll have a great time. They keep Green Man IPA on tap at the watering hole that's walking distance from my house. Definitely seek some of that out, it's great stuff.
  5. Sounds good, although I'm terrible with names when I'm sober so my homebrew addled brain is sure to be significantly worse.
  6. You're near Philly, right? I'll be there next week at the National Homebrewer's Conference. Actually, I'll be getting into town a day early (6/26) to attend The Brewing Network's 8th Anniversary Party . I've gone the past five years and this party is always a highlight of NHC week. Try to make it if you can. Here is a list of the beers that will be at BNA8. I've never had most of them. http://phillytapfinder.com/event/brewing-networks-bna8/
  7. The results are in for the 2013 Zymurgy magazine best beers in America poll. I'm an AHA member, but I didn't vote this year and I can't say that I can really argue with the results. For the fifth straight year Pliny The Elder tops the list as it should, it's as close to perfection as I've ever tasted in a beer. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/community/news/show?title=zymurgys-2013-best-beers-in-america
  8. Now this story has become awesome, because the problem here isn't running a nightclub with strippers and drugs at a mansion in a residential neighborhood owned by tax cheats. No not at all, the real problem here is that the neighbors are clearly......wait for it........ RACIST! http://www.wral.com/...nsion/12564272/
  9. Didn't know where else to put this, as the story on it's own is not awesome and I'd be livid if this was going on in my neighborhood. But this one quote from a concerned neighbor was pretty funny. http://raleighpublic...-party-mansion/ :w00t:
  10. Hopefully he's just taking an offseason break.... Unfortunately I've seen this happen many, many times with friends of mine. Sometimes it comes with the engagement, but usually it's after saying "I do" that you begin to see total lockdown.
  11. Perhaps. But cold fusion? if so, you're selling one or the other short.
  12. My father's day present: A grilling class hosted by Iron Chef Walter Royal at the Angus Barn Pavilion in Raleigh yesterday. A three hour course with different stations including: whole hog and goat BBQ, butchering beef tenderloin, seafood grill / boil, wood fired pizza oven / grilling, and chicken and beef smoking techniques among others. At each station they had all you can eat samples of what they were teaching plus an open bar with great local brews. Then at the end of all the station rotations all the food went out for a giant buffet. When it was over I don't think I've ever felt that full in my life. I went with a couple of friends whose wives also stepped up big time for fathers day. On top of all this we had shuttle service to and from the event courtesy of our wives so we didn't have to worry about drinking too much. It was truly awesome and the bar has been raised significantly for mothers day next year.
  13. Its good, but it hasn't knocked Breaking Bad out of my top spot. That show is awesome.
  14. Every once in awhile we will load up my truck with a few extra large coolers and make a day trip from Raleigh to Fredricksburg, VA just to stock up at Wegmans. I don't know why Wegmans hasn't made the move into NC as they would clean up down here. Harris Teeter grocery stores are ok, but still no Wegmans.

  16. I was at the 1991 draft at the Aud. I was glad I went with all the Lindros hoopla at #1, but after the Sabres picked in the first round I left.
  17. Yes. It's not just the Bruins, I will never root for any team from Boston to win.
  18. My wife's old roommate had to give the ultimatum to her boyfriend of seven years: "If I don't have a ring by the end of the year, we're done." He bought the ring on 12/30 and proposed on 12/31. Not that I was much better, it took me almost six years to ask my wife, I didn't require an ultimatum though.
  19. I've spent some time looking for a woodcock, but have had no luck thus far.
  20. My backyard is very alive with birds these days. I was drinking coffee this morning on the screen porch and in about 10 minutes I saw cardinal, catbird, tufted titmouse, golden finch, blue jay and even a woodpecker come to the feeders. When I get 10 or 15 minutes of peace and quiet (rare with an 8 and 5 year old), sitting out there with a coffee or beer with my birds of the carolinas field guide is one of my favorite activities. I'm old.
  21. Our old friend Luke DeCock is not a fan of the Canes new look. http://www.newsobser...orms-sever.html
