  1. After a few weeks of incessant abuse following that game 7 I refused to discuss hockey with any Canes "fans" unless they could first tell me the names of the 9th and 10th d-men on the Canes depth chart.
  2. Nice list of breweries, including many I've never heard of. Of the ones I'm familiar with I wouldn't miss New Belgium, Southern Tier, Lagunitas, Stone, Sweetwater and Oskar Blues
  3. Friggin' Janik and Jillson in a game seven. Did those two even combine to play another 7 NHL games in the years that followed? Lydman and Soupy were the only legit dmen. I think Campbell had like 26 minutes. I guess Janik did play some with Tampa and Dallas after that, but according to my google search that game 7 was Jillson's last NHL game.
  4. Same here. With a full, heck even half of a healthy blueline I would have been sky high and fully expecting the Sabres to take care of business in the third. The Buffalo pessimistic prophecy had already come to fruition with the news of the MRSA laden shin pad.
  5. At least you guys were in friendly territory for that game. I could have attended but passed on it after the way things went at RBC for me during game 5. Then my neighbors (all bandwagon Canes fans) wanted me to watch it with them but I politely declined. I watched by myself in my living room and spent the nervous intermission talking with my brother and friends back in Buffalo on the phone. Normally a goal like that is a back breaker for the team surrendering it, but as Sabres fans we knew better.
  6. Hecht's go ahead goal late in the second period of game 7 against the Canes. Exhilaration mixed with feelings of impending doom. To me that defines the Sabres in a nutshell.
  7. That sucks. Whatever you do, do not under any circumstances fail to take your painkillers exactly as prescribed. I went to a Sabres game years ago a few days after having all four impacted wisdom teeth removed. The game was against the Mario led Pens at the Aud. I had great seats behind the net just above the glass so even though I should have passed on the ticket, I didn't. I took my tylenol with codeine before I left and figured I'd be good until I got back. Big mistake. Naturally it began to wear off on the ride home, and this was up to that point in my life the worst pain I had ever felt. Absolutely brutal. I had my friend doing 90 down Rt 5 / Camp Rd to get me to my drugs.
  8. I won't make any specific predictions other than to say that Walt will not be killed or die, but rather he will see his family and friends suffer the consequences of his actions. A fate worse than death. Saul is one of my favorite characters, and apparently a spinoff featuring him is a possibility. That would ease the pain of BB going away a bit. Better Call Saul
  9. Bad news for us WNY ex-pats in Raleigh. No more Blinco's. A shame because it was the only place in town to get authentic WNY Friday fish frys, beef on weck and decent wings. They also did a garbage plate knock off called a hurricane plate, but I found that to be sacrilegious. It also kind of served as the de facto home base for our raping and pillaging efforts when the Sabres came to town.
  10. A few months ago my neighbor asked me for a Netflix recommendation. I told him Breaking Bad. He asked for others and I told him no, just Breaking Bad. I saw him about a week later and he had to "thank" me for the resulting sleep deprivation for he and his wife. I discovered the show by accident while channel surfing during season one and I flipped to AMC just at the climax of the bathtub scene at Jesse's house.
  11. The Malamute. Closing today for good. Im here with my dad and brother enjoying a Guinness. What a treat it was to stop by here and chat with Mr. Pyszczek for a few minutes on the day they closed their doors for good. I certainly was never a regular here, but I did stop in on quite a few occasions pre and post game when I was a Sabres season ticket holder. He gave me a signed copy of an old menu that is shown in the slideshow link below that will be going up on the wall in my man cave. I asked him what beer prices were back then and he said it was pretty much Genny or Schmidt's... 3 for $1. In addition to all the historical pictures he had displayed on a table as you walk in, he had pictures taken just last week from atop the crane building the HARBORcenter. Very cool. http://www.buffalone...t-ward-20130726 http://www.buffalone...&ref=ph&site=bn
  12. Southern Tier Live at MacGregors on Maple rd. You all are correct. Awesome APA.
  13. Hadn't seen Flogging Molly before and I really enjoyed their set. High energy.
  14. We left right after the New Orleans is Sinking / Nautical Disaster medley to try to beat the traffic. Right as we got to my brothers truck the rain started coming down pretty good. Its a great venue, but if we hadn't left when we did I could see getting bogged down in traffic for awhile no doubt.
  15. Stumbling drunk Canadians galore...still the Hip rule.
  16. My hopes were not high for BNL and they met expectations. I think they only played Brian Wilson and Yoko Ono from the early albums. They played a bunch of new stuff that I didn't know and their set as a headliner was only an hour. My wife was extremely disappointed. Hope the forecast gives us some dry Hip.
  17. In town for the big concert tonight and its raining cats and dogs in Williamsville. Hopefully it's not another hip rain out tonight. Now with the hail...wtf is this, NC?
  18. Out at my cave and I y just fired up the grill with some Jason Isbell on the speakers since I couldn't make it to Buffalo early to catch him in concert tonight...Anyway I poured myself a new beer as I'm waiting for the charcoal to get going. Great Divide Rumble, its an oak barrel aged IPA. This is one fantastic beer, on first sip it strikes as a big, sticky IPA. As it warms some if the oak characteristics are prevalent, as vanilla notes intermingle with the resinous hop flavor. I'm pretty sure you can pick up Great Divide beers in WNY. Highly recommend.
  19. This story reminds me of an incident when I was dating my wife. She was going out one night with her girlfriends so I was volunteered to babysit her week old kitten (edit: obviously not a week old, he's a himalayan and she had just got it from the breeder a week earlier). Yeah, yeah I know, don't pretend like the rest of you wouldn't do the same when young and in love. Anyway, the damn thing got it's back leg tangled up in a plastic grocery bag, causing him to race around her apartment trying to "get away" from the bag, s$%*ting and pissing everywhere. It took me about a half hour to finally corner him, remove the bag and lock him in the bathroom. Then it was another couple hours cleaning up the mess that was in every corner of her place. That was thirteen years ago and we still have that old SOB.... I've heard reports of foxes near our neighborhood and I've been tempted to leave the porch door open...
  20. When people say "axe" instead of ask. I'm listening to an office mate right now on a phone conversation say over and over "you should have axed them that question"
  21. Have you tried the Iron Maiden beer? http://www.ironmaidenbeer.com/
  22. Good point. I'm assuming the bottles are dated, I'll have to check. Either way it's a good excuse for me to down a few beers on the porch tonight. Edit: yep, I don't like it. Born on date of 2/26/13, not ideal, but it should be still ok given its a bottle conditioned beer. The one i just poured is nearly undrinkable (I'm detecting a fair amount of diacetyl) so I can't be drinking the same quality stuff that the rest of you are. It could also be that the beer wasn't shipped and/or stored properly on its journey to NC. I'll seek out a fresher batch when I'm in town this weekend because I'm usually a big fan of Southern Tier beers.
  23. I finally found some of that this weekend and picked up a sixer. I had one and the jury is still out, there seemed a bit too much lemon flavor for my taste. My palate may have been skewed from the IPA I had before it so I will reserve final judgment until I complete the sixer.
