Exactly. But there are no guarantees to anything in life except...yada yada. Taking everything else out of the equation, I'm ok with the crash and burn or tank approach for no other reason than it's a shift from the false hope / mediocrity approach. Yes, there's a risk that we become Edmonton or the Islanders, but I'm willing to take that risk for a shot at becoming the Pens or Blackhawks, especially since the long term suckitude of a team like the Oilers to me is not really different than the long term sub-mediocrity that has defined the Sabres.

Sabres "Fantasy Gambling" Contest
Claude_Verret replied to Ghost of Dwight Drane's topic in The Aud Club
You may be correct, if that is the case I guess by default I only was in for two units last night and am now at 830. -
Very true, but I'm hoping we save our lottery mojo for next year.

We will pick 2nd.

Thank you for bringing the Bills to Buffalo and keeping them there all these years.

RIP Mr. Wilson.

off topic Breaking Bad *SPOILER ALERT*

Cranston was on Stern a few weeks ago for another fantastic interview. When they were discussing BB, Cranston mentioned that he suggested to Gilligan that the WW character go even more out of control ...getting into fights, random sexual escapades and actually trying his product himself. Obviously they never took it in that direction, but some of that might have been interesting. -
This. Not gonna happen. Ever. So I really don't see the point of continuing to bring up all this 'evidence'. Unless you just want everyone to admit that Pegula is a meddler. If that's what it takes to stop the insanity then I'll be the first to admit it since none of it matters one iota. Everyone please join along with me: Pegula has been and always will be a meddler.

I don't think a team like the Canes can be obvious about a tank. I was talking to some Canes season ticket holders about tanking at the game here last week and they did not even remotely understand the concept. Tickets are a tough sell as it is down here, if it became obvious that they were tanking fans would stay away in droves.

When was the last time you watched a full Sabres game

The Wall of Neuvirth game down here in Carolina last week. -
Well it appears as though I jinxed myself with the statement above as my manager informed me yesterday that he is retiring at the end of the month. I spent all last night polishing my resume and linkedin profile. I'll be able to write novels in the complaint thread if I don't move on soon.

The Charts (2013-14 Edition) - now featuring Tank Nation

There needs to be an NHL version of this... Tankathon -
Can you envision TM being able to do anything close to enough between now and the start of next season that would give this team even a 1 in 4 shot at making the playoffs next year, let alone compete for a Stanley Cup? I can't. As far as I'm concerned the Sabres are already eliminated from the playoffs next year as we speak. We've traveled far down the tank road. Could TM reverse course now, blow up our tank arsenal and try another approach? Absolutely, but it would take well beyond a single offseason of moves to implement a new way forward.

The Sabres give up 34.8 shots per game. 29th in the league. 34.8 * (0.933) = 32.5 saves 34.8 - 32.5 = 2.30 GAA 2.30 - 1.77 = 0.53 Half a goal per game playing with the Sabres in front of him sounds about right.

I found trying to win and finishing 7-12th most years far more frustrating as a fan than one full season (so far) where we've been told with a wink and a nod that the team will suck. I don't think the league really cares about the Sabres tanking this year, this proposed upheaval in the lottery process is 100% about McDavid and other GMs wanting their shot.

When/if the Sabres finally win a playoff series again nobody will care who any of TP's cronies are or what they do.
