  1. Like most things the reality will lie somewhere between the two extremes. He ain't backing up the Brink's truck just as he isn't going to be a backup or retire.
  2. So I went to see Steel Panther in Myrtle Beach last week...and who comes out to sing Highway To Hell with them? Jesse James Dupree himself.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pef1CpejgGQ
  3. I work with a guy who grew up rooting for the whalers. He's the only legit canes fan I know.
  4. Roloson carried Edmonton to the finals in 2006 and was the Conn Smythe favorite until he went down in game one. But the canes weren't lucky that year or anything in terms of massive/key injuries to their opponents.
  5. Stole? That was all on friggin Miller.
  6. IIRC, didn't Sox fans break out the "Yankees suck" chant during their friggin' victory parade too? I think DeLuca may get his Red Sox fan card revoked by admitting on a public forum that he can't work up any hatred for the Yankees.
  7. At times it crosses the line with violence or with profanity in front of kids etc, but damn these are only games after all that we are passionate about. I still contend that if you can't let go for a few hours from the grind of real life and "hate" a bitter rival, which by the way isn't mutually exclusive with respecting that same rival, then you have indeed missed out on a big part of what it means to be a passionate sports fan.
  8. When you lay it all out like that I guess I kind of understand the self loathing.
  9. Why the arbitrary use of the past 7 years? The contrarian shtick pre-dates the last seven years, when yes the Sabres were indeed on the cusp of a Stanley Cup.
  10. Sounds good bio. You'll never have a problem over or under cooking anything with a thermapen instant read thermometer. Pricey, but indispensable.
  11. Quite a cross to bear for our resident contrarians. Whether the Sabres are on cusp of the cup or tanking, its tough to be "wrong" when only one team can win each year.
  12. I've been scouring the local Food Lion deep discounts lately. Last week it was four packs of lamb chops for $2.50 per. Today its flank steaks at $3 per four pack. I've had them in a soy/Worcestershire/Dijon mustard/balsamic marinade all day. I'm about to fire up the big green egg with some grilled veggies and pineapple. Accompanied by hop forward Irish red that I brewed. Good stuff.
  13. If you are above hating a bitter rival, then you're missing out on a huge part of the true fan experience. Or you're just trolling.
  14. I feel compelled to respond every time this comes up. No one, here at least, has ever argued that this approach is guaranteed to work.
  15. Brad Park's game 7 OT goal devastated me as an 11 year old. No Goal of course. Losing to the Canes and having to live among all the band-wagoners down here as they went on to win our Cup really sucked too. You could see that the 2007 squad just didn't have it early on in the playoffs so that wasn't as big of a disappointment as the previous year. Oh and this year was awesome. I'm hoping for a repeat.
  16. Same here. I haven't gone full Office Space yet, but I certainly don't stick my neck out anymore. I'm in a position now that if I left or was let go I'd be fine for a few years not working. Some days it's so tempting to kiss this corporate BS goodbye knowing that I have that option.
  17. I'll bet when all your married friends see your profile on FB they are saying damn that Liger. He's still single with no ball and chain. Lucky SOB. :P
  18. My misery loves company NHL playoff rooting strategy has become interesting this year. All the teams left in the West have won a Cup recently: Chicago (2013) Kings (2012) Anaheim (2007). In the East NYR (1994) and Habs (1993) make it close, but I have to root for the NYR to make the Cup since they are the most recent winner, but it doesn't really matter since I will root for all the teams out of the West to win since they have all won more recently. The nightmare scenario would have been a Bruins-Ducks Cup which would have forced me to root for Boston. The best news is there will be not be a first time Stanely Cup winner this year, and that is most important.
  19. That it was...a lot of pain during those '99 Buffalo sports seasons melds together for me. So Brett Hulls name had only been a curse word around WNY for a mere 7 months the last time the Bills played in a playoff game. I also was three years away from moving to NC, had no kids and still had all of my hair.
  20. I think this only happens at the Vegas location, but the waitresses will spank you with the wooden shot paddle that they carry around if you're stupid enough to allow it.. They definitely do not take it easy, and my wife couldn't stop laughing at me when she saw my bruised backside the next morning.
  21. Good news for you WNYers. I went to the Hofbrauhaus in Vegas a few years ago. Great beers and fantastic atmosphere. http://www.buffalone...uffalo-20140512
