  1. Pet peeve about the Carolina ale house chain, 75% of their tap selections are in fact macro lagers.
  2. Also this overabundance of picks and prospects will be flipped for more NHL ready talent. We must trust in the vision of GMTM.
  3. I think we need a pinned thread that defines what it means to tank. Once again GMTM has constructed a roster that is primed to tank. He has said more than a few times that he doesn't expect the team to have much success this season. This is the tank and it is most definitely the plan this season. Ted Nolan isn't in on the tank and neither is a single Buffalo Sabres player that will take the ice this season. There is a huge difference between a roster that is actively trying to lose games and a roster which is incapable of winning. Edit: I know Naulter did hit the true tank meaning at the end if his post, but even suggesting the players and/or coaches are involved in tanking is what often creates the disconnect between the pro and anti tankers on the board IMO.
  4. TrueBlue's story reminded me of an academic story from the student side. Way back in my senior year of high school we had a term paper due in one of our classes. It was essential for passing the class and therefore graduation. The day it was due, I passed by my friends locker on the way to class and as we walked to class together I asked where his term paper was. His response verbatim: "I didn't do it. ###### it." You could tell by the tone of his voice and his subsequent justifications that he was psyching himself up for a confrontation with the teacher. We get to class and the teacher immediately begins collecting the papers, and he comes to the desk of my empty handed friend. Teacher: Where's your paper? Friend: I don't have it. Teacher: What do you mean you don't have it? Friend: I didn't do it. Teacher: You do realize that you will fail this class and not graduate , right? Friend: What can you do? At this point the teacher hits the roof... What can you do?!! What can you do??? I'll tell you what you can do!! You can get the hell out of my classroom and not graduate that's what you can do...and on and on he berated him for a few minutes. And my friend just sat there stone faced, stood up, left his books on the desk and walked out..... with zero ###### given. Of course they ultimately let him do some BS make up project so that he ended up graduating by the skin of his teeth, but on that day that kid gave zero ###### whatsoever if he ended up graduating or not. Years later when he got out of the air force and used me as a reference to become a US Marshall, I left this story out when they interviewed me.
  5. I believe baby flesh is offered as a secret pizza topping here: http://www.buffbrothers.com/ these guys have three locations. The original one has/had (I haven't been in years) a lot of Buffalo themed stuff on the walls. The one where they held the Canes draft party near the arena is full on Canes. I feel creepy going in there.
  6. Poole's diner is great. Best mac n cheese you'll ever have. http://ac-restaurants.com/pooles/ Raleigh brewing doesn't have food, but it's on Hillsborough street near NC state and they have food truck periodically. http://raleighbrewingcompany.com/ Trophy brewing is a small nanobrewery that serves gourmet pizzas. I'm sure there are veggie only options. http://trophybrewing.com/ A little farther from State is Flying Saucer with hundreds of craft beers on tap. http://www.beerknurd...stores/raleigh/ Brewmasters grill has a good beer selection, but I've never had the food. http://brewmastersbarandgrill.com/ When I talk to my wife I'll ask for more, she is a walking Triangle restaurant encyclopedia.
  7. Yes indeed. Listening to my ipod on the drive this morning, shuffle mode brought up a deep cut from Rush's Moving Pictures album, The Camera Eye. It has a line that sums up my view the 2014-2015 season perfectly. Tank Part II. I feel the sense of possibilities I feel the wrench of hard realities
  8. That's totally inappropriate. It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!
  9. With the advent of facebook I'm surprised that these reunions still go on. My 25th is this year and I won't be going just like I haven't to all the others. But if you're on facebook you can probably keep up with fringe high school "friends" on there, and let's be honest that's probably the limit of what you want or need to know about most of these people. All of my good friends from high school I still see and talk to pretty regularly, the rest ...... zero ###### given.
  10. Twiitersphere, reality TV, pop music, current fashion trends etc. Basically anything the average American under the age of 20 has high on their priority list.... I give less than zero ###### about. Yep, I'm becoming my father.
  11. All of the acquisitions to help mentor the youngsters are fine. The key to the tank this year: goaltending. Unless Enroth or Neuvirth turns into the next Hasek, the tank is still in great shape.
  12. As some of you know I have a family source that is closely tied to the Sens who has met and talked with TM on many occasions. What you see is what you get with this guy, he is completely no nonsense personally and professionally. I have no doubt that he would jump ship pretty quickly if his role as GM wasn't playing out as advertised. I've heard other nuggets of a more personal nature, that I'm not at liberty to share here, that would also support the case that GMTM would not accept meddling in hockey decisions.
  13. When Pommers was traded that signaled that DR had finally given up on a failed core and the Sabres had entered tank mode, and with the season already lost and the Sabres sitting in the bottom five in the league what did they do? Win a bunch of meaningless games under RR that served no other purpose than to shut us out of the type difference makers we needed most in an extremely deep draft. Wasted, meaningless wins in an already lost season. At the time, there was much discussion and consternation on the board over this lost opportunity as I recall.
  14. Exactly correct. When you're going nowhere in terms of competing for what we all want, a Stanley Cup, sometimes it's best to retreat, stock up your reserves and live to fight stronger another day. Except for all of us who had the foresight at the time to know that our patented run to nowhere was once again going to cost us a shot at one of the elite centers this team so desperately needed.
  15. I'd guess that there is not a single Sabres fan who enjoys losing. For this year there are some who will enjoy not winning too much/often. That subtle difference is what I'm thinking some fail to understand. I'll also point out again that if we had tanked properly two years ago and were looking at two top young centers in MacKinnon/Barkov/Lindholm/Monahan to pair with Reinhart, then all this tank talk for 2015 would be largely unnecessary.
  16. You've been here for awhile, have you also read the bulk of the pro tank posts since last season? I can't believe someone who has been around since the tank talk started in earnest can STILL be so off target on what the tank philosophy is and means. Everything you wrote above is out of line with what it means to tank. You anti-tankers like to talk about absolutes when it comes to tanking for the #1 pick in 2015. Here is an absolute that you can take to the bank about the 2015 #1 pick: It won't be traded. Ever.
  17. Nope. We've already slid it in with our 1st this year and Scarlett is there in all her glory. Now we're poised for the money shot with McDavid or Eichel. A top five still gets us a handy. Outside the top five is getting pushed off with a kick to the nads.
  18. I drive a silver Tacoma with NC plates and a Sabres decal, but I haven't been anywhere near I86.
  19. When you're not sniffing the playoffs no matter what you do, not hoping for a tank is insane. I guess those extra 6-8 wins over 82 games that move you out of the bottom five and into first round purgatory actually moves some folks' fan satisfaction needle. Nevertheless, I trust in GMTM to ensure the tank is successful and not do the equivalent of banging Scarlett Johansson, pulling out early, and giving yourself a voluntary case of massive blue balls.
  20. The first round talent dropoff isn't linear. As often as the Sabres have selected in first round purgatory over the years we should all be very familiar with this concept. http://canucksarmy.c...-s-sam-reinhart
  21. Every single player who plays in the NHL has those risks. Including the exponentially worse prospect the Sabres would select at 12 if we don't tank.
  22. Given the ass reamings we've taken over the years from the hockey gods, I think GMTM is borrowing a line from Pedro Cerrano... "###### you Jobu, I do it myself!"
  23. This was my initial thought when hearing she has been taking on a larger role with the Sabres, but still I don't get anything out of that blurb that suggests KP has a seat in lieu of TP.
