  1. I like this idea better than the Carter Hutton rumors. I watched Hutton play many times in Nashville and just don't see him as an upgrade over Lehner. IMHO, his good numbers this past season were a function of St. Louis' uber-defensive system.
  2. Smith-Pelly is a UFA.... Anthony Duclair is a UFA... maybe the league is full of racists? B-)
  3. With some exceptions (certain teams are just hopeless), this World Cup is all about which team has the better midfield play.
  4. I guess Tavares doesn't want to play for the worst francise in hockey. B-)
  5. WADR, how can you guys not know who Mitch Korn is? He was Dominik Hasek's goalie coach. IMHO, he is one of the top 2 or 3 goalie coaches in the business and has been for a long time.
  6. That Serbia - Switzerland game was fantastic. Back-and-forth action, fans going crazy... exactly what the World Cup should be.
  7. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I saw somewhere that statistically Lehner was the worst goalie in shootout history. That and his inability to cover the short side post consistently is enough for me to be happy we're moving on. In today's game goalies are a bit of a commodity. It's mostly positioning. There are a few guys with superior athleticism, but mostly you're in the correct spot when you're supposed to be and the puck just hits you. I think we can easily find a guy equal to Lehner for cheaper. Also, everyone knows the chemistry of the team needs to change, so this helps in that regard.
  8. Had to Google him (which answers your question) - it looks like he is on tour throughout the summer.
  9. I lifted heavy for many years. About 20 years ago when I lived in DC I went to a gym where a number of professional bodybuilders trained... King Kamali, Bethany Howlett, Dave Batista (who wrestling and movie fans know as just Bautista) and some others. They'd revoke your gym membership if you didn't follow the old school rules of gym etiquette. I learned a particular mentality there, which was basically go heavy or go home. My main source of information other than the pros at the gym was the (now defunct) weightlifting magazines. But, what I/we didn't know back then was those magazines were instructing everyone to lift the way professional bodybuilders lift... they'd recommend routines that the pros use... but that level of intensity is just not appropriate for most non-professionals. Fast forward 20 years and pretty much everyone I know or knew who lifted that way has had knee, shoulder and/or back injuries. And, most started to have problems right around age 40. Ugh. ;) BTW - I have strong opinions about CrossFit (given the above)
  10. This is something we've seen time and again at the World Cup. On paper a team should be fantastic due to individual talent at each position. But, sometimes a team full of star players doesn't want to "roll up their sleeves and get dirty" so to speak...they don't play with a killer instinct... and they lose (or draw) to less talented but more motivated sides that play with an edge. That said, it'd be hard to not pick Belgium to make it out of group play. I don't think Panama and Tunisia offer much offensively. And, England always craps the bed at major tournaments.
  11. a 400 lb. squat is a great accomplishment! Been lifting religiously for a quarter decade or so. I'm old now, so I no longer push my limits (e.g., max out). My biggest piece of advice is start scaling back the weight (and/or only go uber-heavy selectively) when you start approaching age 40 or so. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way! You can fish for Asian Carp... with a net!
  12. Yep, it's all about hydration in Colorado. In my many years living there (mostly in Boulder) I'd drink water all day every day and sleep with a humidifier. …I now live below sea level in the most humid and rainiest city in the US. :D
  13. Doc needs to quit babbling and just let the scene play out for the viewers. The guy never shuts up.
  14. Really happy for Barry Trotz. I met him a few times when he was head coach in Nashville. Class act and he waited a long time for this.
  15. I hope this ends in regulation. I don't have enough beer for an OT game. Total implosion by Vegas. Good.
  16. I just can't stomach Doc Emrick... have been watching with the game on mute.
  17. The brothers Followill (with cousin on lead guitar)...
  18. Know your limits ladies and gentleman...
  19. They're one of the headliners for the Voodoo Fest (music + arts experience) down here in New Orleans October 26th - 28th. Come on down. https://www.voodoofestival.com/lineup/
  20. Any 35 year old we add would have to be a "lead by example," "heart and soul," "pro's pro" type of player.
  21. Down here in the Big Easy we metal harder than elsewhere... not for the faint of heart... crazy heavy (i.e., most will hate this)... listen at your cost of your eardrums... (this thread crosses genres, so I though I'd throw another one out there)
  22. This seems to be a non-starter. If a 35 year old Kovalchuk comes back to the NHL, unless he is desparate for money, there is no way he'd choose the worst team in the league as his destination.
