    Nice win. It is always great to beat Carolina and their whiny fans. Chad Johnson has a winning record (18-15-3). He has been very solid.

    Was messing around with stats on NHL.com and the leading scorer this calendar year is Sydney Crosby with 49 points in 35 games. Joe Thornton is #2 (44 points). Evgeny Kuznetsov is #3 (40 points). Anze Kopitar is #4 (37 points). Patrick Kane is tied with Kris Letang at #5 (36 points). Eichel is a solid 40th (26 points) tied with guys like Toews, Bergeron, Kessel, Spezza and Blake Wheeler.

    I'm sure part of the incentive for signing was the chance to start in Buffalo. We're playing for the future right now anyway and I'd rather see him in Buffalo than a guy like Catenacci. Glad he is now in the mix.

    This is one of the great things about living in Nashville. So many talented musicians living here that they sometimes get together to play tiny local venues just for fun. This is a show I was at last year at a little bar that holds maybe 100 people. I think it cost $5. William Tyler (who is insanely talented) and a few of his friends. The third song (Area Code 601) is really good.

    I have a copy of the survey that Gary Kleck used to create/fabricate this defensive gun use (DGU) statistic. The sampling frame is atrocious (all of 222 respondents) and the survey design especially weak. Basically, he asks a bunch of gun owners if they've ever used a firearm for defensive purposes. If you ever got scared in the night and grabbed your gun, it is categorized as a "defensive gun use." Unsurprisingly, this study is at the extreme high end of dozens of DGU studies. And, unsurprisingly it is the one the ammosexuals usually cite. That only about 1000 DGUs are reported to police each year seems not to dissuade anyone from pushing sham statistics.
