  1. I heard that and was thinking the same thing. Gord is absolutely right. On the NESN feed they were talking about how Ruff is the longest serving coach in all of sports with the exception of Greg Popovich of the Spurs. The obvious difference is of course that Pop wins championships left and right and has his team up top again this year. It really is mind boggling that Ruff is still here having never won a Cup... and that Darcy (who I think is even worse) is also still employed in Buffalo...
  2. Terry caused this mess by heaping praise on Darcy and Lindy and signing them for life, then overpaying left and right for marginal players. It really is insulting to the long-time fans. We disagree a lot on this board, but I do think there is a fair amount of hockey knowledge among the posters here. And, every one of us can see that this team is lost and needs a major shake-up.
  3. I have been saying for years on this site that he is the very definition of a journeyman and not worthy of the praise folks were heaping on him. When half the teams in the league let you walk, there is a reason for that. ...to think we bitched about Tallinder and Lydman. They're far better in the defensive zone than what we have now.
  4. Our defensemen are just pitiful. Who put this collection of dung on the roster?
  5. Everyone asks "who would you replace Lindy with?" My (somewhat obscure) choice is Lane Lambert: http://www.nhl.com/i...ge.htm?id=73318
  6. This team is driving me to drink... yet again...
  7. I hate that I always have the NESN feed whenever we play the Bruins (via CenterIce). ...and what grown-assed man goes by the name of Dougie?
  8. Sloppy in our defensive zone, but what else is new...
  9. Quiet GDT thus far. Glad Stafford finally got one. Hopefully he'll go on one of his hot streaks.
  10. Unless they've changed philosophies recently, the Avs have built their team based on speed, speed, and more speed. So from that standpoint, I wouldn't doubt that Ennis would be a guy they'd look at. I like Ennis, but agree that you have to give up someone of value to get someone of value (e.g. Kassian for CoHo).
  11. Saw this tweet this afternoon... David Pagnotta ‏@TheFourthPeriod Teams like BUF & TOR are pushing hard for O'Reilly, but the price is high, as many have stated. Top-6 F, top prospect as part of package
  12. I've been one of the few consistent advocates for moving Pommer. It isn't that I don't appreciate his scoring and positional play. I just think this team needs a drastic culture change and moving the captain does just that. Lindy loves him though, so I don't see it happening. I agree 100% with Ink that CoHo has been a defensive liability so far. But, he is young and should get better. In that sense, I think we may have underappreciated the defensive ability of some of our past centers (i.e. fans tend to only focus on scoring statistics).
  13. Yep, $5 million per year costs a 1st and 3rd. And, IMHO he is a guy worthy of a first round pick as long as it isn't a top-5 pick. As well, I'm sure dumping Leo or another veteran at the trade deadline could get us a 2nd (or more) in return. So personally I don't see what the big deal is with a high pick or two in exchange for a young, skilled two-way center. In psychology there is a stream of research on something called regulatory focus theory. It basically states that there are two ways of viewing the world (can be situational or chronic): (1) A promotion focus means you seek positive outcomes (2) A prevention focus means you avoid negative outcomes The theory states that the regulatory lens through which you view the world colors your actions. ...It strikes me that many Sabres fans (and perhaps Buffalonians in general) tend to view the world with a prevention focus. Talk of making an aggressive change is always tempered with "what if something bad happens?" (BTW - I'm not referring to anyone in particular with this post)
  14. Why not just sign him to an RFA offer sheet and give up some picks? ...then move some guys like Leo and get some picks back at the trade deadline...
  15. O'Reilly plays center and Ennis moves back to his natural position on wing (2nd line). Ennis is far more skilled than Stafford IMHO... not to mention cheaper and younger.
  16. Drew looks like he is vomiting on his skates in that picture.
  17. Did the Senators score? I've long ago turned it over to the Preds - Sharks game.
  18. Pick a corner, fellas. Shots to the midsection won't cut it against Anderson.
