Caps have the second best power play in the NHL, so we can't afford to take stupid penalties like the one big Tyler just took. Have we had a hat trick yet this year?

Interesting that we're playing this one without two of our three veteran "core" guys (no Miller, no Vanek) and are still faring pretty well... (and Pommer is invisible once again)

IMHO, we're better off without Leo back there. I was never a fan (my posting history throughout the three years he was in Buffalo is pretty consistent in that regard). Pysyk isn't flashy, but he doesn't seem to do stupid things with the puck and his positioning and skating are both very good.

He had a couple of really nice saves. One on a partial breakaway by Ovi comes to mind.

Pretty good period for our boys. Need to avoid the dreaded second period letdown now... I thought Hecht was strangely effective that period too.

We have been shorthanded more than any team in the league (137 times and counting).

I don't doubt they have developed a fan base and the game day atmosphere is better than one might expect. But they are losing over $20 million dollars per year and have posted substantial losses every single year they've been in the desert. The only thing keeping that team in place is heavy subsidizing from the City of Glendale and the city's bond rating has dropped multiple times as a result... Glendale is a financial catastrophe with over $1 billion in debt. Really dangerous to buy a team that can't survive on its own without heavy public subsidizing... especially since the subsidizing entity (Glendale) is itself in a state of financial chaos. But, maybe there is some billionaire out there who will buy the team and arena, deal with the debt, and work some financial magic? http://online.wsj.co...1337161186.html

Pretty much all I drink these days are Rogue 22s. My favorites are the Hazelnut Brown, Chocolate Stout, and Dead Guy Ale. Had the Northwestern Ale (with a picture of Captain Sig on the bottle) yesterday while watching the Sabres lose.

I'm going to type something almost inconceivable to the doomsday prognosticators... if we could somehow make a trade to get an above average center here... someone who could help the power play and wasn't a defensive liability... we could make the playoffs THIS year.
