I'm not sure I view the deadline moves we made as constituting a total rebuild. We dumped a one-dimensional defenseman (Brennan), two aging, overpriced, pending UFA defensemen (Leo, Regehr), and a slumping, arguably overpriced Captain (Pommer). The latter trade was clearly done, in part, to change the culture of the team and locker room. Everyone seems to lament the loss of Pommer, but its not like this team was very good when he was here.
We have to do something one way or the other about Miller and Vanek, of course. But we have two top-40 prospects already in Grigo and Armia, plus several good young players on the current roster (Psysk, Hodgson, Ennis, Myers, Foligno, etc.). I don't think it needs to be a long time before this team loads up again. And, I actually still don't think these guys are completely out of it for the playoffs this year.
